On Wednesday, April 20th at 11am I will sit in a small, windowless room in front of my dissertation committee and colleagues for two hours where I'll have to defend my 270 page dissertation, which is quite possibly the dullest thing ever written.
After two hours of talk, they'll ask me to walk out of the room and they'll decide my fate. If all goes well, I'll be invited back into the room after 10 minutes or so and will be officially Dr. O'Leary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still can't believe this is actually happening! I'm so nervous I think I'm going to be sick!!!

Wow, good luck!! I will hoepfully be defending my PhD in the next 2 years. I defended my MS thesis last March. It is a nerve racking experience. What field are you in?

Congrats!!!! My friend defended her PHD in Molecular Biology a while back and I recall her being a nerbous wreck. Try to stay calm. You spent tons of time and effort researching this so you know it all cold, I'm sure.

Good luck!! My Dad defended (successfully) last year and the man I've never in my life seen break a sweat (he was the head hostage negotigator for the NYPD) was a wreck!

Was told last night that my defense has to be moved up because my dissertation advisor has been invited to a conference in Morocco and is leaving the evening of the 18th. The guy travels more than I ever thought was physically possible.
So now it's the 12th at 11am!! sooner the better, I guess. My initial plan to head right to the bar afterwards has to be put on hold - I'll have to go right to nyu to teach a class - either smiling uncontrollably or crying like a baby!!!1

Ahhh. I asked you about this a while back because I have a cousin who represents Co. Donegal. She was actually the youngest woman ever elected to such office when she took over her father's seat. He died quickly from cancer and she was in office at the tender age of 21 delivering speeches in Gaelic to grumpy old men.
I'm sure you will do great.
One of my good friends defended her dissertation last spring (three months after getting married) and my cousin a year ago. My cousin had to do it via video because her committee was in another state.
