nwr My Phd defense date is set!!!!!!

On Wednesday, April 20th at 11am I will sit in a small, windowless room in front of my dissertation committee and colleagues for two hours where I'll have to defend my 270 page dissertation, which is quite possibly the dullest thing ever written.

After two hours of talk, they'll ask me to walk out of the room and they'll decide my fate. If all goes well, I'll be invited back into the room after 10 minutes or so and will be officially Dr. O'Leary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still can't believe this is actually happening! I'm so nervous I think I'm going to be sick!!!

Thank you all so much for all of your encouragement - I feel like I have my own cheering section!!!

Hmm8191 - you might want to tell your father to be on call the day of my defense, if they don't pass me there might be a hostage situation!

David's Bride - WOW - an elected official at 21? and giving speeches in Irish? Impressive!!!! ok, now the dissertation defense is seeming less intimidating - at least I dont have to speak in another language - I only know English!

I'm so glad you posted this thread! Among my classmates, I'm the only one trying to plan a wedding and work on my disseration as well. You inspire me to get my butt in gear and be the superwoman I know I can be! lol

So when you become a doctor...are you using your maiden or married name???

I'll use my maiden name professionally - I spent too long on this to only enjoy being Dr. O'Leary for a few months!!!!!

My FH told me today that he wants us to be announced at the reception as 'Dr. and Mr.' instead of 'Mr. and Mrs.' Didn't have to ask me twice!

My Mom went through that went she was pregnant with my brother...she said it's alot like a sorority hazing. The people on your committee will no longer be your support...they will badger you about little details....then they send you out...then, after you pass, they all greet you with hugs and welcoming words....good luck! stay cool during the defense is my mom's advice!
