NWR: My sister is due on Sunday and has Strep B..........what is that?

My mom was telling me that my sister was tested last night and this was found. Does anyone know what this is? And it's not the strep you get in your throat when you have a cold.......

Its a vaginal infection that is fairly common. It doesn't cause any symptoms in most people.

It can cause infections in the baby who would contract it via birth, but because the know she has it, they will treat her with antibiotics as soon as she goes to the hospital in labor. Its not a huge deal if they know about it.

She wasn't sure how she got it (the infection). Does that only happen to women who are pregnant?
