NWR--My summer rental is being taken over by Reality TV

Well girls, it has happened! The beautiful Fire Island beach house that my DH and BIL rent and run as a sharehouse is being taken away from us for several weeks this summer and it will be used for the filiming of a new show called Summer Share. While this is happening, our group will be given 2 other houses to stay in. The 2 houses do not compare to the one we are giving up, though. When it is over, we'll get to move back into the newly pimped out house that was used for taping the show. We are all getting a good portion of our money back for the rental, but whatever. Dealing with this has not been easy, though, and the deal seems to change on a daily basis. Stay tuned for more changes. Our group of friends will be separated into the 2 smaller houses. When we get back to our house, we' be dealing with gawkers and security issues. It doesn't seem like anyone who has a house on Fire Island even wants to see this happening. We really didn't have a choice. Our landlord is getting paid a lot of money. We've rented from her for 8 years, she is nice, and we couldn't really say NO to this.

I'm going try to make the best of it and it will be fun to see our house on TV. But this last minute change is so stressful and I feel like our summer won't be what we had planned.

Someone, just tell me:

a) that it wll be okay
and
b) that there are much worse problems to have!!

I know I need to keep perspective on this!

Great house - when does taping begin? I will be there for my BP the weekend of June 23rd!

It'll be going on while you are there!!! Also, I'll be there that weekend!!! I will staying in another house because I'm not hot enough for TV! We are supposed to be back in around July 15, but I keep thinking that there will be delays in getitng the house back.

OMG imagine if some of my BP antics make national television

Uh oh...We're going there for mine June 10th! That's an awesome house! Sorry you can't stay there this summer!

I would not worry but I am glad last year was my last year I guess I made a good decision there is going to be alot of crazy things going on worse than usual. Because people that usualy don't go to FI will be there just to be on TV. I have been out there for the last 5 years and for the last two it definatly was changing. I am sure I will be visiting some of my friends after the taping.

Hey! I got an idea!!

This summer, while they are filming, go to the house, knock on the door, and when someone answers throw a hissy fit about how they 'stole' your summer house and you'll never forgive them.

It'll make a good episode and you'll get to be on TV I'll bet... besides, wouldn't it be fun???

I'm truly serious and only b/c I have this obsession with being on TV....

My BIL thinks that we should show up the first weekend with a bunch of suitcases, beach chairs in hand and our dogs (dogs will add to the comedy) with our ORIGINAL lease in hand and say that we are here to start the summer in our house!!!

Just spent the weekend there, in one of our substitute houses. It was , ummm, interesting. Everyone in town wanted to know what happened with us! We are back in the reality show house on July 9 and counting the days. The substitute houses just aren't the lap of luxury. The construction workers have obviously started to do some things at the house that is being used for filming.

Get this--There is a guy in town who HATES our landlord and the feeling is mutual. He is raising hell about a film crew coming in. DH and I went to check out what the film crew is doing to the house. No one is allowed on the property but it is very visible from the beach. However, we caught the guy that hates our LL walking out of the house . We asked why he was there. He has known me and DH for years and I guess he did not recognize us. He said, 'Uhh, I'm friends with the owner.' OMG they have hated each other for years, and the owner herself is not in possession of the house right now. He just wanted to see what was up so he can complain about the situation!! What a liar. At least I admit why I was there!! I'm nosey! And I still did not step foot on the property like he did!
