NWR--My summer rental is being taken over by Reality TV

Well girls, it has happened! The beautiful Fire Island beach house that my DH and BIL rent and run as a sharehouse is being taken away from us for several weeks this summer and it will be used for the filiming of a new show called Summer Share. While this is happening, our group will be given 2 other houses to stay in. The 2 houses do not compare to the one we are giving up, though. When it is over, we'll get to move back into the newly pimped out house that was used for taping the show. We are all getting a good portion of our money back for the rental, but whatever. Dealing with this has not been easy, though, and the deal seems to change on a daily basis. Stay tuned for more changes. Our group of friends will be separated into the 2 smaller houses. When we get back to our house, we' be dealing with gawkers and security issues. It doesn't seem like anyone who has a house on Fire Island even wants to see this happening. We really didn't have a choice. Our landlord is getting paid a lot of money. We've rented from her for 8 years, she is nice, and we couldn't really say NO to this.

I'm going try to make the best of it and it will be fun to see our house on TV. But this last minute change is so stressful and I feel like our summer won't be what we had planned.

Someone, just tell me:

a) that it wll be okay
and
b) that there are much worse problems to have!!

I know I need to keep perspective on this!

Thanks--I have to remember, my DH says that with the refund, we can get my great grandmother's diamond reset. Right now it is in a ring that is too big and tough to resize, so I don;t wear it. I've wanted a pendant but with the wedding, we didn't want to spend the $$.

It's just been a tough month or so at work and I keep looking at the negative lately!

I'm sorry to hear that this didn't work out in your favor house-wise. But at least when the taping is over, you get to stay in the tricked out house and you didn't lose all of your $$$.

And trying to find some photos to post of the house we are giving up (hey, no one told me I can't show people my photos of the house before they use it to tape).

Corneille Estates, near Ocean Beach. The house was built in 2004, finished in 2005. I got engaged there in the midst of the construction during the winter. We shared a bottle of champagne and then that bottle was placed in a Time Capsule inside one of the walls in the house! See, I have such great stories from that house, but I'm still OUSTED!!!!

Here is a sneak peak at the house that will be on the show. View from the beach looking toward the house. This was last summer. Who knows what they will do to change the appearance? It's not easy to part with this house.

It'll be going on while you are there!!! Also, I'll be there that weekend!!! I will staying in another house because I'm not hot enough for TV! We are supposed to be back in around July 15, but I keep thinking that there will be delays in getitng the house back.

Thanks! We were really lucky to have this house in the first place. We had rented from the owner in another house she owned and she trusted us in her new house. But now she has this opportunity. I feel a lot better. I called some of my friends from out there and we were going over some beach house memories and I just hope that this summer can add more great memories. I have to remember that I was not always in this new house and I did always have fun, even in some of the crappy houses I lived in!!
