nwr: need help planning a romantic weekend getaway
So, Jeff and I decided to go away together for our anniversary in April - we'll be together 6 years, and we've never gone away together - it's about time!
We were thinking of maybe something like Lake George, since it will be off season. I've been looking at hotels. I'd love to stay somewhere bed and breakfasty, but near all of the fun stuff (shopping, restaurants, etc) and not overly expensive.
Anyway, the issue I'm having is that honestly, I'm a really nervous traveler, and the idea of staying in somewhere that is privately owned and therefore not sort of nationally recognized as good makes me kind of nervous - I get all kinds of 'Psycho' images in my head and stuff. So, how can I make sure that the place I choose is legit and good? I mean, if it's listed on hotels.com with 3 stars, that should mean I'm safe, right? I found one place that looks great, it's 3 stars, but I can't find any real reviews of it, just ads and listings on websites. Are these reliable sources?
Also, has anybody stayed in a nice place in Lake George (or that area) that they would recommend? And has anybody stayed at The Locust Inn B&B?
thanks ladies! I'm such a worrier, I know if I don't find something to tell me that it's ok, I'll just be nervous the whole time that something will go wrong, and it will ruin the weekend.

I don't know of any in Lake George, but their is a great place in Manchester Vermont, called the Equinox Hotel. It is beautiful and doesn't look like a typical hotel at all. More like a large colonial mansion. Manchester is a great town, and about 4 hours away.
Also, about three Weeks ago, me and FH stayed in the city over night. We stayed at the Marriott Marquee in Time Square. We go the the Escape package. It is a wonderful package. It includes Dinner at The View, which is a rotating restaurant on top of the Marriott. Chocolate and Champagne in your room, and buffet Breakfast in the morning. THis breakfast was fantastic! It included everything. They had a guy making omelets how ever you wanted them. THey brought you out pancakes, French Toast, or Waffles, cooked in the back ,with warmed maple syrup, Juice, Coffee, and other buffet type things. It usually costs about $24 pp. The Hotel and package cost $387, and I think it was $420 with tax. THis is the second time we have done this, and I love it. We also saw a show. We wanted to keep the price down, so we saw a off-Broadway show. ' I love you, your perfect, now change'. I think it was around $60 pp. It was a funny show.
SOrry so long, just thought I would give you suggestions!
