NWR: Need Opinion

NWR: Need Opinion

Ok, I where should I start. Just to let you guys know I'm 22 years old. Yes I'm young of age but not in mind. Well I work as an account receivable and I have been doing accounting for a few years and have my associates degree in accounting. But I feel this is not what makes me happy. So for some reason an opportunity came to me where I saw a photography studio that can do headshots so I can send them out to agencies. I would love to be an extra on a movie or even in a commercial. Would you do that on the side to see how it goes? I love being different and you get paid like 300 just for one day. I need the money but now I'm stuck. Don't know how to get an agency. Still looking into it but what do you girls think? My FH is all for it as long as I'm not in lingerie LOL which I won't but I thought it was cute. So give me your opinions.

I say go for it. Be really careful with paying an agency anything... my friend wanted to get into modeling and she had to pay money up front then never got a gig. I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) that an agency gets a small percentage of your pay once they get you a job. Do what makes you happy. Later on you don't want to regret anything!

Go for it!! If it's something you always wanted to do I'm sure you'll put 110% into it. And if it doesn't work out you have a degree and experience to fall back on. You are young and now is the time to do what you want. It will be a lot harder to try different things later in life when you have a family and more responsibility. Good luck!!

Go for it, you never know!!!

And trust me, I hear you completely about the accounting. I'm not crazy about it myself, but it's what I have experience doing!!

Forgot to mention, there's an agency in Hicksville right under the train station called New Faces or something like that. I've also seen them have a booth in Smithhaven Mall.

I think that you should definitely keep a day job while you pursue what you want to do - but please keep in mind the following:

1) Do not pay anyone who claims that they will represent you. They will not work for you; they will take your money and that's it. One agency on LI (Hollywood Image, I think) took advantage of a woman I knew with an adorable little girl - promising the girl would be in commercials. $700 later, she realized it was a scam.

2) Being an extra on a movie can mean some really long days for little pay so be prepared that if you start doing this on the side, you may lose some valuable free time.

3) Having an agent can help, but they don't always end up getting you work. They assist you and can be of great help, but you have to do a lot of leg work yourself.

Good luck to you!

I would say go for it and give it a try - but be very careful and do your homework - and read anything and everything that you sign very carefully. A lot of places are really scams - like New Faces. I had a cousin and a friend who worked there. They take thousands of dollars from people and the majority of them never get any kind of job. Just do your homework and go w/ you gut. Good luck!!

Thank you very much. I'm starting to do my homework on it as we speak. FH said as a christmas present he will pay for my headshots. WooHoo! That is so cool.

I'd say go for it. You have your degree and you have experience, so if this doesn't work out, you have something to fall back on. I would definitely keep your 'day' job until you are making significant money doing the modeling or commercials. Good luck and remember it's a very tough business!!!

Go for it.. Just dont quit your job. Do it on the side because it is a very very tough industry. Never deny your dreams. I did and I regret it.

I say go for it. You are young, don’t make the mistake of not taking a chance today that you will regret tomorrow. I think people too often take the safe route and 20 years later ask themselves what went wrong.

I say go find what your passion in life is, now that you are young and can afford to take more risks. Once you are married with kids you will have to take them in to consideration in all your actions. BTW it’s great that your FH is supportive of you.

But I agree with the other ladies do your homework on any agency you are considering.

Good Luck to ya!
