NWR: Need some help - job question - long!

Ok, so my fh living in Boston. He moved up there to go to hahhhhvahd biz school a few weeks ago ( )

Back in July I had decided that I was going to stay in NY (my job, family friends are here), while he moved up to Boston. It was going to be tough, but we'd be fine. I started really hating my current job in August, so I wanted to start looking for a new job (still in NY). I started sending out my resume. I found my DREAM job, and sent my resume out to them, but I never heard back. After looking around for 2 months, continuing to hate my current job, and not hearing back from jobs that I've wanted to pursue in NY, I've decided to move to Boston (this october).

So of course, you can guess what happened today!!!!!!! I got a phone call from my dream job (2 months later!!!!!!!!!! ). 'Hi, you sent us your resume in JULY, and we want to bring you in for an interview.' ARGH!! So I've already made up my mind to move to Boston, we're in the process of giving up our NY apartment, and I'm packing up everything I own.

To make it more complicated, they have a sister office in Boston that is hiring the SAME POSITION. Is there some way that I can tell the NY office that I'm interested in the organization, and the position, but I'm moving to Boston, and want to interview there...?!?? Do you think they would pass on my resume? Should I go and meet with them anyway?

What should I do??????

I would go meet with them and mention the position that is available in Boston. State that you're fiance lives there and you were contemplating on moving there yourself, yadda yadda yadda.

What you really should think about though is the long run. Where do you and FH want to end up after the wedding? Boston or NY? That might help you decide. HTH

Absolutely!!!! What have you got to loose!?! Schedule the interview and be very honest that you are extremely interested in the position but that you are moving to Bean-town but you understand that there's an opening there as well. Make your extreme interest in not only the job but the company too very well known!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

Thanks ladies!

We are definitely coming to NY after he graduates (we're only subletting our NY apartment so we have a place to come back to).

I'm just afraid that I'd be misleading them/wasting their time if I set up an interview with them...especially since my mind is now made up about moving to Boston.

Its a small non-profit, so I don't know how much interaction they have with the Boston office. So, I know they couldn't 'hire me' for the position in Boston....

You don't think I'd be wasting their time? Should I tell them about my Boston move when I call them back??

Is it too late to change your mind about moving? How long will you be there?
If you aren't going to be there for a while then I could you just forego Boston (I know how hard it is to be away from your FH, I've done it... I graduated college before him and we were apart for about 8 months) and take the job here.

I think its too late.

Also.... we're paying rent on two apartments.

So it makes sense economically to move. And who knows - maybe they'll like me in the Boston office!!!

Definitely tell them your situation. Especially since it's your dream job. Keep in mind that it took 2 months for the NY office to call you in for an interview, the Boston office may take a while as well. Everything happens for a reason.... I wish you the best of luck!!!
