NWR:: Newport, RI or Hershey, PA?

FI and I are trying to plan a quick little getaway, preferable somewhere within a decent driving distance. We we tossing around the idea of Newport, RI or Hershey, PA...any other suggestions? We also don't want to break the bank on hotels, I was looking at some in Hershey that we over $300 per night!

I loved Newport. It's really pretty, great places to eat and the house tours are so cool.

I've never been to hershey, so I have no comparison.

FYI, New Hope, PA is only about 2 hrs from central suffolk and is ADORABLE! Cute town w/ bed&breakfast...

Newport is just beautiful, and if you're looking for a quieter/more romantic little getaway, then you should definitely go there.

Hershey, while lots of fun b/c of the amusement part, is a better choice for early fall - that way you won't be dealing with as many families on their summer vacations and such.

Wherever you choose to go, have a wonderful time!

I'd probably pick Newport; although, my boss went to Hersey with his family (wife and three kids) and came back telling me I should go there for a getaway with my fi b/c their hotel was fabulous and had a great spa, etc... Unfortunately, I now suspect this may be the $300/night place...

I live in MD, but work in DC. Both Balto and DC would be great choices -- balto. a little closer if you are driving from ny. Inner Harbor is great -- definitely go to an O's game. Camden Yards is an amazing stadium. Lots to do there and lots of night life.

Whoever posted about New Hope -- I agree! I had never even heard of that place until about 2 years ago when I visited a friend in PA and he took us there for the day. Very quaint!

I've always wanted to go to Newport and I've been to Hershey twice. My vote is for Newport.

I second New Hope, very cute town...there are..cute shops, restaurants..they have an old fashioned train that goes through the town..I also took a ride to a local vineyard that was really nice...and they also have tubing on the delaware river!! I feel like a travel agent

If you are interested I will let you know where we stayed...there is a trick to new hope right across a little bridge is lambertville nj and there is a cute hotel there that is very reasonable with free parking, so we stayed there and walked into New Hope over the bridge in the day (hotel overlooks the delaware river and the bridge, which is a less then a 3 minute walk into New Hope)...very fun...

Newport is awesome but it may be more than what you are looking to spend on a weekend.

I went to Hershey a few years ago and stayed at Spinners Inn which is maybe half a mile away from the Park and it was cheaper

well there is always williamsburg VA for Bushe Gardens which is alot of fun

if you have AAA go on the website and they alsso have alot of weekend getaways and not expensive and becuz you are a member of AAA thats why you get those rates

I love Newport...but have you looked into Naragansett... It's really close to Newport and has that small town feel....

NEWPORT! The mansions are so gorgeous... make sure you check out Rosecliff-- if I were to have a destination wedding, it would be at Rosecliff-- it is beautiful.

DEFINITELY newport- i went with the girls last year. would be so romantic with your fh!! we stayed at the marriott and i don't remember it being a fortune. the cliff walk is a must!

I'm going to Hershey Park Aug 5-7 soo excited...We're staying at Howard Johnson (not too far from the park) and for both FI and I it was pretty cheap under $200
