I wanted to go to Niagara Falls this summer for a fun trip with FH. Has anyone been there, any recommendations? Did you fly or drive?
TIA!

Re: NWR: Niagara Falls?
I went to college there!!! Here is what I recommend:
1) Fly Jet Blue into Buffalo -- 45 min flight each way -- and the prices are affordable
2) Rent a car and drive across the boarder to Canada -- 40 min drive
3) STAY IN CANADA -- it is a million times nicer than the NY side. The NY side is run down and very poverty stricken. Canada has nice hotels right next to the falls and a whole touristy strip.
4) Definitely visit Niagara on The Lake in Canada -- It is about 20 mins away from the strip where the hotels are...but it is BEAUTIFUL -- lots of nice restaurants, huge mansions to look at and vineyards with wine tasting!
5) Definitely do the Maid of the Mist !
*** remember your passports to get across the boarder! *****
if you want a list of the good bars and restaurants or hotels specifically - FM me because I know sooo much about the falls -- I lived there for 4 years!

FH graduated from University at Buffalo. We went once together when I visited him. We drove there. He used to go often with his friends to the bars there. It's beautiful. I think they have fireworks on certain nights.

I went it was soooooooooo much fun. Drove there many times. There is a Canadian side and an American side. You should def go on the ride the 'Maid of the Mist', where you go on a boat and it goes so close to the falls, its great. You should also visit the Canandian cities, like Montreal. I love that city, so much history, culture and so much funnnnnn

FH and I went there this past October and that's when he PROPOSED!!!! Right at the falls. So Niagara Falls will always have a special place in my heart!
We drove, took about 7 hours with a few stops on the way. We stayed on the Canadian side but visited his best friend in Buffalo a few times too.
I found it to be very nice, very romantic, and there was definitely enough to do or not do for a few days long visit.

Re: NWR: Niagara Falls?
DEFINITELY go!! Niagara Falls is one of the BEST vacations we ever took. Soooooo relaxing and soooo beautiful!! We went 9/18/06 - 9/22/06. It was the perfect time of year and the perfect amount of days. We took Jet Blue into Buffalo (dirt cheap, $49 each way!), then rented a car and drove into Niagara Falls. Definitely stay on the Canada side....it's soooo much better! We stayed at the 'Ramada Plaza Fallsview Hotel' and it was GREAT. Here's their website Ramada
If you want detailed information, FM me. I'm at work so I don't have exact prices and info on everything we did, but when I get home tonight I can pull everything together for you. But know for sure that I DEFINITELY recommend the 'Jet Boat Ride' and you MUST do the 'wet' one....not the 'dry' one! Here's their website Whirl Pool Jets
FB&SIL are going as sort of a bookend to their honeymoon at the end of this month. I will let you know what they think.
My brother an I also sent our parents there for their anniversary last year. They went to dinner at the watermark restaraunt ( i think that's what its called) they said it was amazing. Not to scare you or anything, but they also said that a guy 4 doors down from them got stabbed 16 times in a fight one night....and they were on the 'good' side. But it turned out to be a bunch of bikers that had way too much to drink and got in a fight over walking past a bike the wrong way.

really wow.
I drove there and actually left in the afternoon during rush hour, it took 6.5 hours to get there bc of traffic plus stopping, on the way back it was actually 5 1/2 hours
