NWR: Nice places to live in LI

Hey gals,
Can you recommend places for FH and I to look for a house (nice safe communities but under 500K, is this even possible,?)? I am looking for places on Long Island that is a commutable distance to NYC (we work there). Any suggestions?

I definitely don't think you can get houses in that range in the Npt/Commack area. I would try going farther east.

What about Babylon? Houses on the water are expensive but north of that are reasonable. And there is a trian there. The town in great too and so are the schools

I teach in Commack and just to let you know, there is NO train near here. I have an issue w/ a place that doesnt have a train into Manhattan- weird!

East northport definitely does not have the least taxes, this is where I live and my parents pay over 10k for taxes.
I agree with Jaime, you probably need to go further east to get what you are looking for.

As for the train thing, its not so bad in commack, there is a train station in every direction within 10-15 minutes- Deer Park, Smithtown, East Northport, and Huntington to name a few,

Ronkonkoma- in Connetquat schools.

ETA- The Ronkonkoma line is great, because if you fall asleep on the train, you can't miss your stop!

West Babylon too....affordable houses, nice people, and good schools.

(I'm biased, I grew up there, but it's the truth!)

I agree with Massapequa and Massapequa Park. Also Seaford, Wantagh, some parts of Bellmore and Merrick, Baldwin (these are all on the Babylon train line, very accessible to NYC).

Also, you should think about Levittown, Bethpage, Plainview, Farmingdale. It sounds like you want to stay in Nassau, to be closer to the city, and those are affordable, but family-friendly communities in Nassau. You can get a 3 brm, 2 bath in the $375-400 range (I look on mlsli.com all the time). But if you live in those areas, the train may not be as accessible as Seaford or Massapequa.

I live in Bethpage and you could easily do that. I take the train everyday..about 50 minutes.

I grew up in commack, there is a train station in deer park and huntington, like 15 minutes from commack. Commack has a GREAT school district and tons of young families

If you are commuting, look into the south shore Nassau. I used to commute from Bellmore, it was 45min ride.
