Empowerment schools generally have more freedom/flexibility to address the needs of the students. There is a bit more flexibility in things such as planning workshops/PD's because we are not fully guidelined by the rules of the BOE. Theres more but I cant remember right now.
FM me if you have any questions

We became an Empowerment school mostly because of the additional funding. But additional tests are administered to students to measure 'academic growth.' Basically, the principal gets more independance... but with independance comes greater accountability.

Thanks for the information.
I was just wondering if it led to anymore pressure on the teachers. In your opinion, do you think teachers would shy away from empowerment schools or do you think they would prefer it?

I have found that it hasnt been a bad experience.
Even though we give more assessments the results have helped us to plan and help address the needs of the students.

it depends on the principal. i have heard horror stories and i have heard stories where it made not difference on the teacher's quality of life. but, you could say the same for any principal, not just those under empowerment schools.
