Hey girls -- I'm just wondering if anyone has lived in or near Oceanside or went to school there? We're thinking about making an offer on a house in Ocean Harbor and we're not sure about the neighborhood. I would love to hear any good or bad experiences. Thanks!

We live in Baldwin Harbor, very close to the Oceanside border.
Its a really gorgeous neighborhood, you have nothing to worry about!! If you can afford property taxes, go for it!

I have a couple friends that teach/teached in the district and they really like it. I have a lot of family there too and they have been there for years and really love it!!!! It's a great town i think - i would live there (im from baldwin) but will have to move east b/c of FH when the time comes.

I live in Oceanside! i just moved there about a year ago and i love it. There is a ton of shopping and resturants you are right near the beach. the school district is good. The ONLY down side that i find to the neighbor hood is that its a little far from the high way. I work all the way in Melville so i am really far north. other than that its a great place to live! Good luck

I grew up there, the schools are excellent, close enough to the beach, go for it!

Re: NWR: Oceanside
I lived in Oceanside almost my entire life, and still do. The schools were okay...My friend lives over in Ocean Harbor and I would just make sure that the block doesn't flood, because the water tends to get high over there, but it's probably the nicest part of Oceanside because all of the homes are beautiful over there. Good Luck!

Re: NWR: Oceanside
Everyone is invited over for a pool party if we get the house It's actually a few blocks away from the Oceanside LIRR station which is kinda perfect cause we both commute to the city for work.

Thanks Kimmy -- I plan on checking the flood zoning and getting an engineer in there who knows about that type of stuff. Any other suggestions on how I can tell if its likely to flood?

Re: NWR: Oceanside
I would also call an insurance company to find out how much flood insurance would cost- alot of insurance companies do not want to give homeowners insurance to homes near the water.
