NWR - Out of town friend's baby gift question

DH's friend had a baby in June, we are just getting around to getting a card with the wedding and all. We got the announcement card and all. They live upstate, the new dad is a childhood friend of DH. We see them usually at weddings or rare get togethers, they came to our wedding.

I cannot see buying an actual gift at this point and paying to ship a clothing or a bib. DH suggested money - but I'm fairly sure we'll get invited to a Baptism should there be one (probably will be). What does everyone think?

Send the card alone - no gift at this time or would a check made out to cash for $25 be good enough? It's not like it's family or someone who was in the BP or something.

Thanks!!

I would go to Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us and get a 25 gift certificate and send that with the card - MHO... not a fan of sending a check for a big event like this - make it more specific...

ETA: sending a GC looks like you took the initiative to go out for something FOR the baby - I would look at sending a check as 'I'm too busy to get around to it...' JMHO

If you wish to send a gift, I think a check would be perfectly fine, in whatever amount you choose to give. If you would like to make it a bit more personal, a gift card to a place like Babies R Us would be very much appreciated I am sure, but I would check online to make sure that there is one located near where they live.

I like to do gift cards for like Babies R Us or something because then at least you know it will be spent on the baby & not wasted on other stuff! JMO
