NWR: Passports- Urgent

You all are so helpful so I knew it wouldn't hurt to ask.

My fiance needs to travel to Finland to train for a new job! Thinking that he had his passport, the company booked his flight for SEPTEMBER 5th!
We had no idea that it would take WEEKS to receive the passport!

do you ladies have any suggestions on how he can get his passport mailed ASAP

He is a US citizen and has an expired passport (was done before he turned 16).

Any suggestions will help

Thanks in advance!

i think he can go into the city and go to the office there and get it that day. it costs extra. tell him to have fun in finland, i did a semi-camping trip around finland and estonia for a week. it was such a beautiful country. i went during summer solstice and went way up north and the sun never set....

I'm not postive about this especially since more security at airports recently, but I think as long as he has the expired one as well his original birth certificate with the seal on it he might be ok. Just call the airport to find out....

I swear, you ladies are the best!!!!

A friend said that she went and had it done the same day a couple of years ago but...on the website, it says that the minimum is 2 weeks.

Maybe they just don't want EVERYONE thinking they can just come in to get it right away...

or maybe the requirements have increased, making it more difficult...

He's definitely going over to the main office in the morning with his itinerary but...he doesn't even have an appointment yet

i highly doubt that. you should (i think it is a must) to have a passport that doesnt expire within 6 months of the date you travel.

I would go into the city... you could get in a day, but it costs a lot more.

Also, he should inquire if his company can help with this...as they are making him travel. many companies help with travel arrnagements and situations such as this. he might be able to get some sort of work visa or something,

My mom is from Finland....I've been there about 6 times....it is a beautiful place- and everyone speaks english there (unlike here lol) so he shouldn't have any problem communicating.

When you went up north- that's Lapland- I've heard its beautiful- but its very far from Helsinki (I think 8 hours away?)....the sun never really sets in summer up north , but it also doesn't really come up in winter time, so that kinda stinks!!

Hope FH has fun in Finland! Make sure he goes to Stockmann and buys you something nice!! (their main dept. store).

He definitely should speak with his company, they should be able to do something, at least reimburse the costs he's going to have to pay to have it expedited!

If you are traveling I believe within 14 days, you can go to the passport office in the city and they will do it for you the same day.

You all are so wonderful! I wasn't able to get back online until now...

Thank you for all of your help.

He's going to the city in the morning in hopes that they can do it for him.

...but will he have to go to the post office first? How does that work?

Thanks SO MUCH again

Re: NWR: Passports- Urgent

I had to do the same thing ...it's on hudson street ...just make sure you tell him that he had to have a confirmation of his tickets with him so he can prove he needs it quickly ....well at least that's what i had to do when i went to london last year

oh and ur not allowed in the office with a camera phone ...they make u leave it at the deli next door so if he has one ....dont let him bring it

hope this was helpful

Re: NWR: Passports- Urgent

yeah i did the same thing

i went down town, had to wait the whole day - but I walked out with it the same day

You need to bring your ticket stub or receipt of proof that you are leaving with a few days.....

Re: NWR: Passports- Urgent

Thanks.

It sounds like it will work out...but I'm still hoping that it will be as easy for him since he isn't just renewing it but is actually getting a new one. He can't just renew since he had his last since he was under 16.

He can go into the city and get it on the spot. The only thing that sx is be prepared to be in line all day.

Oh...it's SOOooo worth it though! He's been stressed that he wouldn't even be able to get it in time, so at this point waiting on line for a whole week and 2 hrs would be worth that passport!
