OMG I tried eating the whole wheat pasta, but it was getting me upset b/c I felt like I was eating dirt-flavored pasta! I couldnt do it!!

ive eaten the whole wheat and depending how its made it can be ok lol...if you put regular sauce on it then it does taste a bit different...ive used whole wheat pasta when i made pasta with shrimp and a franchaise sauce or with garlic and oil...basically when you make a sauce for it and cook the pasta with the sauce its better.

or if you are gonna use whole wheat pasta with regular sauce, maybe make your own and make the sauce with sausage and meat sauce or just one of them.

I actually like the whole wheat kind! it def depends what brand you get though....I actually live in PA and go to ShopRite regularly, and theirs is actually decent....but barilla plus is pretty good too!

i bought ronzoni and its not very good!... i didmake my own sauce and its not doing the trick... but if i make it with garlic and oil with a little parmesan its not too bad so i thought id try it out with sauce.. def. no good!

Re: NWR: pasta LOVERS!!!!

when you make the pasta, do you boil it and then put sauce right on top of it? or do you put olive oil on the pasta or butter before the sauce? personally i prefer the butter its not as greasy but when its in the colander i add some butter

the barrilla plus rotini are good, but the types are a little too tough

Try dreamfields. Its only 5 carbs per serving and tastes exactly like regular. Its in a black box in the pasta isle. Waldbaums carries it- im sure others do to.

Although I do agree that there is nothing like regular pasta, I have gotten used to the taste of whole wheat. At first I was grossed out by it too, but since my mom is dieting for my wedding, that's all she eats now. Since I'm so proud of how hard she's working and changing her eating habits, I eat it with her too and have learned to love it actually. You'll get a taste for it eventually lol

yeah at first when i tried it with red sauce it was awful...but i tried again and made a creamier sauce and i guess it makes a difference when you cook the pasta with the sauce in a pan for a bit. And try the butter it helps

Re: NWR: pasta LOVERS!!!!

I am a pasta lover and the regular kind is by far the best. I've tried the whole wheat and can eat it, but it's not nearly as good. I'd found that a good compromise was the multi-grain kind. I can check what brand since we have some in the closet, but it tastes a lot better than the whole wheat, especially w/ angel hair.

I like to use red pepper flakes, so it helps hide the ickier taste. The sauce is usually my fav part anyway so I can eat any pasta!

Edit: maybe try cooking the pasta in chicken broth instead of plain water?

Yeah, cooking the pasta in the pan with the sauce for a little bit definitely helps...makes it absorb the sauce a bit and taste more like the sauce!
