So - I'm probably going to delete this, so don't quote me.
I got invited to a baby shower for a friend from college (she got prego, they had a justice of the peace marry them, now she is due in June)
We weren't super close in college, she was a sorority sister, and we haven't really spoken more than once or twice since graduation (and it was via AIM, not even the phone)
So . .today, I get an EVITE for her baby shower from her sister. I was kind of surpised that I was invited, considering we don't talk and how expensive it can get throwing a big party like that - its at a restaurant. I call one of my other friends who got invited also (I saw her name on the evite) and word is - they are having everyone pay for themselves!!!! Like, I knew they were tight on cash, but seriously? Dont invite so many people then. . .
I wasn't going to go anyway, but am I wrong in thinking that is so inappropriate?!?! If you don't have the money to throw a shower - I'd rather be invited to a BBQ at the house or a pizza party or a party with just snacks or something - or heck, no food at all! I just think that is so rude . . . if I went and was caught offguard, I'd be pretty taken back.
Not cool at all. I wouldn't go maybe just send a small gift for the baby.

Re: NWR: Pay for yourself shower?
very rude and tacky!
i can understand if money is tight, but if that's the case then have a BBQ or pot=luck or something at home where people could help contribute.
but i would not plan a party at a restaurant and except those invited to pay... doesn't make sense.

Re: NWR: Pay for yourself shower?
they should have had it at home then -- I'm sorry but a lot of people are so concerned with 'keeping up with the Jones's' as they say that all common sense and class goes out the window.

Re: NWR: Pay for yourself shower?
This is kind of like my FH's dad's soon to be step son.
His birthday is in a couple of weeks and his friend is throwing him a 30th birthday party, and it is $30 dollars a person, or $50 per couple!!!
Tacky Tacky Tacky.

Re: NWR: Pay for yourself shower?
Wow that is weird. Pay for yourself?? I dont know if I would go. If she were really close to me, I might go but seeing that you dont even talk that much, skip it.
You're right, like you said, they could had a nice barbeque in the backyard or invite less people. IT would have still been nice.
Just out of curiosty - did they include a price in the invite or you dont even know what it will be?? Not being nosy - just wonder how some people can put a price on ther like that.

Re: NWR: Pay for yourself shower?
Ive heard of this before. My FMIL has been to quite a few functions where you had to pay for yourself, she was actually surprised when I told her my mom paid for 1/2 of SIL baby shower.
