Do any of you ladies have PCOS and are being medicated with Metformin or Glucophage??
If so, are you experiencing severe stomach/bowel issues?

You should be starting off on a low dose. It is not uncommon. It should go away after a few weeks. If severe pain, I'd contact your doctor.

Normally its one or the other. Did someone counsel you to take it with food? If its still a problem, I would suggest asking the doctor if you would still be controlled properly using the extended release version. If its the initial spike when the medication is in your body but throughout the day it gets better then its probably that you need extended release. Otherwise the doctor will need to tailor your dose to something lower until you adjust to it.

Re: NWR: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
I lowered my dosage to twice a day and my endocrinologist said eventually my body would get used to it.
But now I am having discomfort on my right side by my abdomen and my regular doctor thinks I have developed irritable bowel syndrome from the glucophage. Ughhh. Trying to fix one problem has caused another!

Re: NWR: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
I would suggest an abdominal ultrasound to see if you have some cysts or fibroids that could be causing this pain. Are you bleeding?
If a cyst ruptures or there is torsion, that could be a reason for your pain.
I would also have them rule out infection. (urinary?) Usually heavy bleeding is associated with fibroids. Is there any way you could be pregnant? One more thing, where is the pain located? If it's in the right, it could be your appendix. Not trying to scare you, and I definitely don't know your medical history. Hopefully I helped more than made you nervous.

Ok. Sooo.. I have figured out the cause of my pains on my right side!
I started taking ginkgo biloba to help with my memory and sure enough when I stopped taking them my pains stopped! Crazy!

Re: NWR: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
I just started Metformin 500 mg 2 times a day and am on the extended release form and I've had no nausea or loose bowel. A little groggy the first week but now I feel fine.
Has anyone lost weight on Metformin? I got my dress this week and I put on a couple of lbs ...I hate when people think its so easy to lose weight. It has never been easy for me to lose weight. I'm hoping with starting the Met is will help some what.
