Tomorrow I have to stop by Queens Civil Court. There is this case that someone is suing me for something I knew nothing about. I am going to try to clear my name for this and I need everyone's support. I'm really broken over this and I am so scared that things won't go my way in this case. I do have enough evidence but I feel they would still blame me by assocciation.
I am also worried that if I lose this, I won't be able really save up for FI and I's dream wedding next year. Please pray for me.

Re: NWR: Pray for me
It just this afternoon, I receieved the papers from the 'plantiff' and just started crying. Long story short, it was under my ex fiancee's name and he made a bounced check and for some reason they involved me by assocciation. Even the check was made by him and everything, so how does it involves me? I know the settlement isn't that much but with possible court fees, it might be a lot and I already saved up for stuff for my upcoming wedding. Plus this effects my mother because I am helping her to get a house for her in PA. I have a much better credit score than her but have this problem that needs to be cleared in order to go forward to this weekend's closing.
I admit reading the stuff here does help me a bit.

Do you have an attorney? If not, you should really try to get one or at least get advice from someone if you're attempting to defend yourself.
As far as court fees go, even if you lose, you won't have to pay any 'court fees' other than your own attorney. Unless there is some contract that you signed saying you'd pay the other side's attorneys fees, you are only responsible for your own fees.
My Dad is a lawyer and I'm a 3rd year law student. I'm not qualified to give you any legal advice, but I was a court intern and have worked in law firms for the past 7 years. If you just want to know what your day will be like in court tomorrow, you can FM me and maybe I can give you a little peace of mind.

Thanks! I'm trying think positive... like my FI, like the food tasting I'm going to on Wednesday nite, like that beautiful dress I ordered 2 weeks ago. FH means the whole world to me and been supportive from me. Ditto with my family.
Maybe I should just read the speghetti thread again for a good laugh. LOL

My mother and brother are going with me as my witness (and for moral support) tomorrow. I talked to FH this afternoon during lunch and he said just make sure you bring your evidence and hope the judge gives me mercy.
I just want this over so I can move on to happier things.

I understand what you are going through, and I hope it all works out. I also hope the judge is easy on you, b/c you're representing yourself (which you may hear the judge refer to as 'pro se').
I'm not sure what court you are in, but as far as your evidence goes, there are certain rules in court about evidence being allowed in. If you are in small claims court, these rules are relaxed, but if you are in Supreme Court (the main trial court in NY) then you may be precluded from putting things into evidence. This is kinda where it helps to have a lawyer.
Again, if I can help you in any way, FM me!

It's small claims court. I just want this out of my otherwise nearly spotless credit report.
I really appricate the help, Jess.

No problem! I'm relieved to hear that you're in small claims court, that should make it much easier for you to prove your innocence!
