NWR: Puppies!

So, we randomly went into a puupies store in east meadow on sunday because we were trying to kill time before a party. Bad idea. I never had a dog and always wanted one and this store lets you just play with whatever dog you want. I FELL IN LOVE with this little baby maltese toy that was only about 1 month old! I love him, he is so cute. My FH doesnt mind us getting a puppy but we just cant afford him right now .. im so sad

If you are ready to get a dog, check out an animal shelter. They are affordable and you are giving a dog a new life.
You can also try getting a dog from Puerto Rico try petfinder.com

my FH had dogs from the aninal shelter and the north shore and he said all his dogs had problems becuase they werent taken care of previously. dont know if thats the case or not, but i know he past dogs did have issues. One had to be put down because it had a mental sickness, which was really sad. It made her act out and have behavior problems. it was very sad

I told my FH I want a puppy as my wedding gift. You should definitely get one, having a dog is amazing. I always had a dog up until 3 months ago . I can't wait to get a puppy. Pure breds are expensive but you can always go to the pound or North Shore Animal league...sometimes they have small breeds. Or you can search online for a maltese rescue. My friend actually did this and her dog is great.

Do not buy a puppy from a puppy mill. Don't. This makes me so sad, because those dogs are basically bred and sold and are introduced to all kinds of infections and germs.

If you want a puppy, please rescue one from a shelter. Those dogs need kind, gentle and caring owners. It was the best decision we ever made when w decided to get a dog.

Buy from a private breeder if you're insistent on it. They have the parents on premises and know the dog's history. Dogs from puppy stores are just one of a 1000 to the owners; they rarely know their history. Two of my friends spend over $2k on dogs from Puppy Depot and both died within 72 hours from Parvo.

that happened to my FH and he started drama with store who refused to give him the money back and he called the TV and once the TV called the store, they didnt comment but returned my FH's money which was about 2k

oops...didn't see your post about the shelter and North Shore. I would say definitely try a Maltese rescue. The rescues aren't only dogs who were bad situations. A lot of dogs are in rescues right now because so many homes are being foreclosed and the owners have to move to apartments where dogs aren't allowed. You can always find out the background. A lot of the dogs did come from loving homes.

Please dont buy a puppy from a pet store. I have a feeling you went to the same place my sister got her puggle from and she had a terrible experience. Her dog was so behind in getting trained because she had kennel cough for over a month. She couldnt take her out, get her shots, or socialize her with other dogs because of the kennel cough. It was horrible.

Please go through a reputable AKC breeder for a puppy. We've had our dog, Jeter for over a month and he's so healthy and happy. We're so happy we didn't get him from a pet store.

Aww! I know how you feel!! I never got to pick out my own dog(I love the two I have to death though) Fh I went to Puppy Depot and found this ADORABLE dachshund I was in love!!!! BUT because I was lovesick over this dog they jacked the price all the way up to 1200 not only that we have 2 doxies already and we don't need another dog. The next time I get a dog I will go through a breeder or adopt. Try terrificpets.com

A private breeder that I found online. But they just had boxers.

A have a wonderful dog who was abandoned.
But, good decision to wait until you are able to afford a pet. I see too many people on a daily basis who can't afford their pets and it makes me very sad inside. Little maltese puppies (esp toy breeds) tend to have a lot if issues (hypoglycemia, etc) when they are young. Definitely look into pet insurance.

Re: NWR: Puppies!

My aunt goes to that store in East Meadow all the time and has gotten two puppies from there because she just couldn't resist.

The two dogs I have now both came from North Shore. Cody originally was my aunt's dog, but when she had to get rid of him, we offered to take him in. We got Donatello on Memorial Day, on our THIRD visit to North Shore. I have to say, I will never do business with them again. FH wanted to surprise me with a puppy early in May while I was away on a cruise, and he went to North Shore and fell in love with this puppy. He filled out all the paperwork, took pictures of her, and was all set to take her home. One of the workers finally asked if he had another dog. He said yes, and they said that he couldn't have the dog because she was sick and can't be around other dogs. They tell him this after he had been playing with her for nearly an hour. The second time we went together and found this teeny golden retriever who fit in the palm of our hands. We named him Hunter, and once again, took pictures, filled out paperwork, and were told at the last minute that he has Palvo and would die soon. FH got pissed and started complaining that this is the second time a dog was taken away from him at the last minute because nobody put signs up telling customers that these dogs are sick. They lady told us that there was a sign - apparently when there is a certain color tag on the cage, we are all supposed to know that the dog has Palvo. Come on.
So on the third visit, we played with a couple of puppies (they were all sick, too), and finally found Donatello. He was sick also, but not as bad as many of the others. They suggested that we keep him away from Cody for a week, which we did, and he was fine.
Just be careful when you go to North Shore and make sure that you get ALL the information on the puppies before you fall in love.
