So, we randomly went into a puupies store in east meadow on sunday because we were trying to kill time before a party. Bad idea. I never had a dog and always wanted one and this store lets you just play with whatever dog you want. I FELL IN LOVE with this little baby maltese toy that was only about 1 month old! I love him, he is so cute. My FH doesnt mind us getting a puppy but we just cant afford him right now .. im so sad

A have a wonderful dog who was abandoned. But, good decision to wait until you are able to afford a pet. I see too many people on a daily basis who can't afford their pets and it makes me very sad inside. Little maltese puppies (esp toy breeds) tend to have a lot if issues (hypoglycemia, etc) when they are young. Definitely look into pet insurance.
Well said. Without including the cost of our puppy, we must have spent about $1500-2000 on him already between the vet visits for all of his shots and all the necessities that go along with owning a puppy.

My aunt goes to that store in East Meadow all the time and has gotten two puppies from there because she just couldn't resist.
The two dogs I have now both came from North Shore. Cody originally was my aunt's dog, but when she had to get rid of him, we offered to take him in. We got Donatello on Memorial Day, on our THIRD visit to North Shore. I have to say, I will never do business with them again. FH wanted to surprise me with a puppy early in May while I was away on a cruise, and he went to North Shore and fell in love with this puppy. He filled out all the paperwork, took pictures of her, and was all set to take her home. One of the workers finally asked if he had another dog. He said yes, and they said that he couldn't have the dog because she was sick and can't be around other dogs. They tell him this after he had been playing with her for nearly an hour. The second time we went together and found this teeny golden retriever who fit in the palm of our hands. We named him Hunter, and once again, took pictures, filled out paperwork, and were told at the last minute that he has Palvo and would die soon. FH got pissed and started complaining that this is the second time a dog was taken away from him at the last minute because nobody put signs up telling customers that these dogs are sick. They lady told us that there was a sign - apparently when there is a certain color tag on the cage, we are all supposed to know that the dog has Palvo. Come on. So on the third visit, we played with a couple of puppies (they were all sick, too), and finally found Donatello. He was sick also, but not as bad as many of the others. They suggested that we keep him away from Cody for a week, which we did, and he was fine. Just be careful when you go to North Shore and make sure that you get ALL the information on the puppies before you fall in love.
YES this is what happened to my FH so he refuses to go there anymore
