NWR: Puppy update

So I posted last week that the puppy that FH and I have been patiently waiting on from the breeder was finally born... Well, I got a call from the breeder last night that the only boy puppy in the litter (which was supposed to be ours) died on Saturday. I'm so sad I feel silly because I never met the puppy and wasn't attached but I was just so excited about getting him

Oh no! That's so sad! Don't feel silly- it's really sad and a huge disappointment. Would you be willing to take one of the girls? Or are you going to look for a different puppy? That's the trouble with purebreds- a lot are inbred, even by reputable breeders and develop lots of medical issues. Why not adopt? There's tons of puppies in North Shore or the ASPCA who need good homes. You can even find purebreeds! My mom's purebred collie was adopted from the ASPCA. Or you can check out a rescue!

I'm not sure what we're going to do....we can take one of the girls from the litter but FH doesn't want a girl dog. The breeder called a bunch of other breeders and no one has a boy now. SOOO....we either wait a year or two (because they do not overbreed) and see if there is a male or take a girl now. I'm trying to talk FH into a girl but I dont think he's going to budge.

Why doesn't he want a female dog? I have both a boy and a girl and there's really no difference in temperment. Especially since you'll have him/her from such a young age. It's mostly in the way they are raised.

It's just his thing...he wants a boy. There is a difference in temperment to some extent, at least with this breed. The male dogs tend to be more mushy and protective; but I do agree a lot depends on the upbringing. I'm working on him...

i agree....we have a female and shes great. but i have also grown up with boy dogs and theres no real difference.
