NWR question for any car mechanics

fh's car had a leak in the trunk and a few months ago i started noticing a bad smell... he was so used to it, he couldnt smell it... his dad looked at it and found there was a leak coming from the bottom of the car when water splashed up into it... the water was all filled in the spare tire hole and caused the mildew and mold and very bad smell... they took out all the water and used a mildew cleaner... but it still smells.. he thinks if he takes it to the dealer they'll charge him a ton of money and won't fix the problem, so he' s leaving it up to his dad to fix, who never gets around to it...

has anyone ever had this problem? or know the best thing to do to get rid of the smell?

It might be in the carpet of the trunk try a steem cleaner. My Fh had a problem like this not to long ago and used the steem cleaner ans it came out and it smells like new now. But if he dosen't fix the leak it's going to keep happening.
