NWR rant
ugh I am so stressed out!!! Just had my student teaching meeting and although I am excited to get into the classroom (and nervous/freaking out at the same time!) I am so stressed with the amount of work I am going to need to do... and on top of that, I have two night classes on tuesday and wednesday nights which are going to require alot of work =/ Also, because of that and the classes, I only have monday, thurs and fri evenings available in my schedule for some sort of a job. But i need to leave room for school work in there too...And to top it all off, I start Sept. 9 and we have a wedding in Brooklyn on Sunday the 15th. We booked a few hotel rooms with my all of FH's cousins, but now I have to drive separate and leave at like 10pm to go home because I have to student teach the next day... Initially, I was told I wasn't starting until the 25th, so I thought I would be able to stay over for the wedding.. THIS SUCKS!
I just keep telling myself that I will have my Master's in December, but it's just so hard to juggle this all and still try to get some sort of a job!
END RANT

They make it seem a lot worse than it really is, honestly. It's not as stressful as they build it up to be. I got through it fine and I thought it was going to be terrible. Writing my thesis was worse. I'd rather student teach than do that.

I finished my thesis this summer! I didn't think it was too too bad, just long and boring haha... I'm really nervous to get into the classroom though, I feel like I don't know enough of my math to teach it still!

This!! In the beginning of student teaching they make you think you're not going to have even a spare second. It's really not that bad. You'll be fine!

What grade are you looking to teach? My brother is a math/special ed teacher for a middle school in Suffolk- he absolutely loves it.

Student teaching is stressful but I can tell you it was one of the best experiences of my life. Enjoy it and know that it is going to lead to an amazing career. Teaching is stressful, annoying, political, draining....and easily the greatest, most rewarding ride you'll ever take! What are you teaching? Maybe I can help you out with lessons.

What are you teaching? I'm a math teacher - I teach geometry, algebra 2, & calculus. FM me if you need anything. If you give me your email, I could send some worksheets that might be helpful.

Getting a job sucks. I graduated (my under-grad but I went for teaching so I got my license) in May 2008 and got hired that June. But I'm working at a catholic school. There were no other jobs. And the few people who did get hired, the majority of them ended up getting let go. It sucks the market. But you can end up getting lucky.
I just would pigeon-hole yourself into one district.

You have to be willing to take anything! My first two years I took a job in Brooklyn. It was tough. My kids had horrendous back stories and attitudes to go along with it! But I adored them! After having two years under my belt I made the switch and got offered an amazing job in Rockaway beach at an accelerated school. Kids are fabulous! Be above nothing! Every school offers you something unique that you will take with you. Don't be scared of the city. If you only want LI you will be waiting a long time.

I'm getting my MS in Secondary Math Education and Special Education... so I'll be certified in grades 7-12.. I'm hoping that having the Spec. Ed certification will make me a little more marketable.. the only problem is that I am coming out with a Master's and schools are more willing to hire someone with their Bachelor's because it's cheaper

It's tough for any teaching job, but if you get a TESOL or a Special Ed certification you will be a little more desirable for sure
