NWR: Raw Food Diet

NWR: Raw Food Diet

Just wondering if anyone tried doing a raw food diet -- the vegan diet in which you can't eat anything that is cooked. I had a goal of doing it for 3 weeks last summer and stayed on track for the 3 weeks and lost 15-20 lbs! I'm thinking of doing it again for a few weeks before the wedding. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

I do too!! I only did it for 3 weeks last year. I would never be able to do it permanently. I know some people do it as a short term 'cleanse' so I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried it.

I went vegan for awhile (like 6 weeks - I'm vegetarian and wanted a challenge) and of that, I did a raw diet for one week. It was difficult, I gotta say! But in hindsight it was very cleansing.

i might have to start this for a while just until my gallbladder gets better. i stocked up on smart water and veggies today. FH is dreading it, he hates vegans lol

Some people are permanent 'raw foodists'...I just did it as a 3 week cleanse. See below for the description of a raw food diet from Wikipedia:

Raw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. If 75-100% of a person's total food consumption is raw food, he/she is considered a raw foodist or living foodist.[1][2] Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten,[3] but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products.[4] Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a selection of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gaba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as carpaccio), and non-pasteurized/non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk, raw milk cheese, and raw milk yogurt). Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw vegetarianism or raw veganism, those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet, and those that advocate a diet of only raw animal foods (carnivorous).

Adherents of raw foodism believe that consumption of uncooked foods encourages weight loss (and stability, without the risk of re-gaining),[5] while also preventing and/or healing many forms of sickness and chronic diseases.[6] Some medical studies have indicated that different forms of raw food diets may lead to various health problems, while other studies have shown positive health outcomes with such diets.

btw..i read through the whole description...I didn't eat any meat or dairy products..only fruits, veggies, etc. (I guess there are different types of raw foodists)

I'm not sure about sashimi or tuna tarter. But according to wikipedia, there are some raw foodists who eat sashimi. When I did my raw food cleanse, all I ate for 3 weeks was fruits and veggies. I know some people eat raw nuts (can't be the roasted kind cuz that would be cooked) and some other things. The whole 3 weeks I just ate fruits and veggies except for 2 times when FH and I went to a raw food restaurant in Manhattan called Quintessence. At that restaurant I had some things that had nuts and probably some other things other than just fruits and veggies. It was really really hard in the beginning, but as time went on it just become part of my lifestyle. I knew that I wanted to eat cooked food again so I knew that I didn't want to eat raw food permanently, but I was actually a little sad when the 3 weeks were over.

To answer your other question...I am TOTALLY addicated to LIW!!!

Carol Alt (80's supermodel) is a big supporter of the Raw Food Diet, she has books and books on it. So if you really want to do it, I would suggest reading one of her books.
