So, lately I have been noticing that my extremely thick hair has become much thinner by the scalp. It still looks pretty thick and healthy but compared to how it was it's not really the same. It seems that my hairline is receding back. My dad has absolutely no hair and I know his own mother lost her hair at a decent age and always wore a wig (not sure how old she was when she lost it). I got my hair cut a couple months ago and the woman noticed it and asked if I iron my hair a lot. This past year I really had been more than usual. Then this past Friday I had an amazingggg hair and makeup trial (which I will post about as soon as I get the pics) and the hair person told me I really need to keep an eye on it. She recommended not pulling my hair straight back tight but at the gym that's a must for me. I rarely part my hair unless it's straight which is when I iron it lol. I have curly hair and really only iron it in the winter bc I can't wear it straight in the summer it will frizz. Anyone experience this and have any credible remedies to fix this at all? I know if it's hereditary you're usually screwed but I'm not really up for accepting this lol. I've looked online and saw some pills or shampoo and conditioners that may help, any thoughts?!?! Thanks!!! Trying not to panic just yet..... lol
Those who have met me I'd love your input on what you think of my scalp ha lolol

Re: NWR: Receding Hairline :(
Well I havent met you Jenna but my best friend started to have this same exact problem as you in the past 6 or 7 months (she's the one who works for KPMG)...so this could very likely be an inidicator of stress. She went to the dermo and he basically said that she could use some rogaine as funny as it sounds and it should work. He said its very likely a sign of stress and nothing else but if it gets a lot worse, he would test her for certain things. I know this is very vague info but I just wanted to show my support and let you know you're not alone because I know how uncomfortable this was for her and upsetting. shes only 24, young like the rest of us

Do not use rogaine for women its a waste. If you buy it, buy the mens, its stronger.
I would go to dermo and test your testosterone... that will tell you if your levels are normal and if its hereditary or not.
Best thing to do is only brush when you have to. Wash but not condition.... the pores get clogged and casued more to fall out.

I have a similar problem...I used to have thick thick THICK hair and now all of a sudden my hair is crazy thin. My g-rents had the same issue and they started taking vitamins and it really worked for them, so I am doing that now.
I've only been on them for a week so I can't say that its worked for me...but I've been taking Folic Acid and Biotin and crossing my fingers that it works!
My gpa's hair was thin enough that you could see his scalp through it and now you cant!

I have the same problem. My hair loss seems to be stress related. I take Vitamin B, Selenium and Biotin. Came highly recommended by my hairdresser who has the same problem. A lot of my hair has grown back.....all gray....but it's growing back.

Hate to say it...but it also may just be age . Alot of my friends have complained of the same thing as they were in their 20's and 30's.

I have the same issue. It started about 6 years ago. I found a great Dematologist in garden City that specializes in female hair loss.
I was diagnosed with Alopecia which is a term for 'thinning hair'. There are all different kinds.
I went to about 5 before I found this one. FM me if you want the name and number.

Start taking vitamins! I had some hair loss a few months back, I starting taking B complex, omega 3's and a multivitamin to just get healthier and it's helped my hair, it has gotten thicker! I'm sure there are vitamins specifically for hair loss, ask your Doc. Good luck!

Definitely take Biotin it is a vitamin that helps with hair strengtening, you can buy it at a GNC store. If it continues I would definitely discuss this issue with your MD because there are several things that can be causing this that aren't necessarily stress-related. Good Luck!!

I dont have any advice on how to correct this, however I have to stongly agree that pulling you hair back in a pony tail is probably contributing to it. My hairdresser has been telling me for years not to do this because it makes the hair week and I ignored her. I now have extremely thin hair near my temples. I never had thick hair, but I have noticed thinning at the temples the last year or so. I am 40 years old, and do have a history of think hair on both sides of the family.
Dont pull your hair back anymore, it;s bad for you the hairline.

Take Biotin.. I agree with the dont brush if you dont have to... i never use a comb to brush my hair- only when i get out of the shower... i use my fingers because i damage it so much from the round brush... also stop using the hair iron!!!!! its terrible for your hair!

rogaine sells a shampoo /conditioner. maybe try that also. i would try that before actually going on rogaine..sinc it has been known for hair to grow in other places and you dont want to be looking furry for your wedding!!
also get on vitamins
in terms of pulling your hair back? what about one of those headbands or a bandana instead?

I also began having this problem. My hair dresser suggested a line called NIOXIN. They have a shampoo, conditioner. treatments and a bunch of other things. After I had my son my hair line started to receed terribly. I started using 2 creams right on the fron of my hairline and within months i had a full hairline again. I swear by this product. Check it out online. Its for all hair types

i also only brush when i get out of the shower, also if you wear your hair up wear it lose and low this way its not pulling on the roots of your hair

Have you lost a signifigant amount of weight recently? My friend had lapband surgery lost over 100 lbs and it made her gorgeous curly thick hair thin and brittle...

Re: NWR: Receding Hairline :(
Heyyy, thanks so much for all the input!!
I really don't excessively brush my hair at all....I haven't lost much weight I'd say maybe 15 pounds but in the last 2 years.....I take vitamins daily but not the Biotin or any of the others recommended so I'll def be looking into that.
I'm going to see a dermatologist (that's who I'd go to for this right?) first I think and then maybe go from there. If anyone else has any comments or opinions or dermatologist recommendations feel free to add, thanks again!!
