NWR: SERIOUSLY?????????? vent

i really REALLY do not like people right now!!!!!

every Monday, I tutor this 2nd grader... and MULTIPLE times over the last year (cuz i did through the summer and last year as well) i'd show up and have situations arise that would PISS me off...

ex: I'd leave my office job EARLY to get there at 4pm, get there, NOBODYS HOME!!! 'ohhh i forgot, they had haircuts today...' or 'ohhh you come on Mondays???? we're not home!' blah blah blah

and id flip out cuz id be losing time from my regular job to do this....

now ive started going at 5pm so im done w/regular work, and i get there today and Sal (the kid) has no idea why im there! (mind you, his parents are never home they run a restaurant, his grandfather was there like usual)

he comes in, tells me he has no homework, I say, 'whatever get me your backpack anyway' so he does, and says, 'wanna know y i have no homework???' So i said sure.....

CUZ I CAME HOME EARLY CUZ I WAS THROWING UP ALL DAY!!! as he then proceeds to RUN into the bathroom to throw up!!!!!!

so i wasted my time, again, and exposed myself to a stomach virus.....i drove home, got the lysol, and bathed in it!!! LOL YOUD THINK THE MOTHER WOULD HAVE CALLED ME AFTER PICKING UP HER SON TO SAY NOT TO COME??!!!!

ugh im so aggravated

and on top of it FH is being a big JERK right now...

omg they seriously dont EVER know!! never ever know whats goin on...even when they are there on mondays, she still says, 'oh todays monday?? oh yeah!'

its sooo frustrating...and i need this xtra $$ so bad!! im like praying hes better later this week and i can go there...thats the only reason y i deal w/the BS time and again!!

they do this to my sis all the time - she is a speech pathologist and has a few kids for private sessions after work. She goes there and half the time they aren't there and makes her schedule for every week in advance....half of them don't show up or forget their books or aren't home, etc.....

it really is so inconsiderate...

and not for nothing, but it makes it obvious why the student needs help in the first place!!

there is no reinforcement or anything at home to do homework every night, to be organized, nobody helps him with anything so he's just as discombobulated as they are!!

i tutor also and have had clients like this....what if you call before you get in the car to dirve over there? or start charging for the time that you are there even if you dont tutor him...for ex...most teachers charge $60 per session ($1 a minute)...if you were at the house for 10 minutes before he announced he was sick charge them for those 10 minutes....hope this helps

see, the thing is that makes this so sticky for me is

1. the parents are never home!!!!!!! n no matter if i call their pizzeria or their restaurant, nobodys ever available to talk to

2. they are kind of 'family' indirectly...they are my cousin's (GM) in laws...so i feel shi**y charging them for time i dont tutor him, i kno they are not in best money sich rite now with opening the restaurant they have alot of debt...although its not my problem i dont wanna be a b*tch

ive decided im gonna talk to my cousin...tell him thati kno its his in laws, but its ridiculous now...i tried callin his house earlier but nobodys home...seems to be the popular trend!

i know how you feel like YOU'RE being the b*tch buuuutttt they are really not being fair to you....i think its a good idea to talk to your cousin first...hopefully he'll know how to handle it

Ughh I would NOT have the patience for that. It seems his parents don't care to much about his education if 'he had a haircut' was the reason he missed his tutoring appointment... JMHO,..... I would call the Mom and confront her about it.

I mean money is tight for all of us, but is this really worth your time?

Not w/ the family that I babysit for right now, but I've had similiar experiences in the past and it is SO annoying

I would say 'please find someone else to tutor your child.' and I would than find another kid to tutor. No need for all this stress you know?

ugghhh you really don't need to be dealing with this. If i were you i would try to get another tutoring position. I know its family and you feel bad, but they are being inconsiderate and rude! You have gone above and beyond for these people and it would be nice if they could call you to tell you that you don't have to show up. Maybe try to talk to the parents......if it happens once okay but it seems to be happening a lot....don't get taking advantage of!
