NWR: Single/Dbl Process Dye VS Highlights?

I have been highlighting my hair for years. Maybe 10? I am getting a little tired of the dark and blonde .. my hair is a light brown naturally. I like the blonde but like I said, I am tired of the many different colors ... I really would like one color, a golden blonde. I am thinking about doing a single process dye (or double, actually, since I guess I will need to be bleached and then color will need to be added back in).

My question is, how often will I need to go for root touch ups? And Is it very damaging for my hair? Could I dye it once to make it all one color and then just continue highlighting so that I don't need to go back so often for root touch ups? Or should I just get a full head of foils? I usually just do a crown, but I get a half-head once a year or so.

I have been highlighting my light brunette hair BLONDE since I was 15 and a few months ago decided that i wanted it natural color again but just a bit lighter. What I did was ask my colorist to dye my entire head with a single process of a color about a step or two darker than my roots. She did that and yes I admit it was really dark for about a month or so but it faded into a beautiful dark blonde (the color I wanted...) Yes, in some sections of my hair my old highlights shine through but it looks very natural and the best part is you cant tell that I have any roots!! I dyed my hair back in June and have not had to go back to get it redone since!!

Hmm. I don't want to go back to my natural color ... it's just too dark ... I wish I could. I have dyed it that color and it didn't take... washed out in like a week. My FH (boyfriend then) was about to KILLLL me. HATES my dark hair, loves it blonde. I really am tired of dying it though ...

I'll have to talk to my hair person I guess. Thanks for the suggestion!
