NWR: Snowday Roulette for Teachers

Original post by ZeppsGirl

Ok so you are a teacher....

are you praying for a snow day tomorrow?

IF you are then play along...its called
Snow Day Roulette.

What you do is invite your friends over tonight and drink all night and take the chance of being hung over and either go to work tomorrow or get a snow day.

Better yet while you are drinking do a snow dance...or a blizzard stomp.

What do you all say? I may start now!

In my 12 years with the DOE, we have closed twice
once was 9/12/01 - day after 9/11 and the other was when there was a blizzard warning and we wound up getting nothing!!

I remember that second one (well, I remember the 1st as well - it was my second week ever as a teacher) - it was during Regents Week so we didn't have work to do anyway. What a waste!

I am definitely off...our principal announced tomorrow's snow day after 7th period today. (2:00)

I will definitely be in late!!!!

WOW!! Was it last year, or the year before, when we got more snow in NYC than we ever had in any 24-hour period in the recorded history of the city... and had school the next day?? It was over 2 FEET and we had school the next day. My car was totally snowed under and I had to walk a mile to school in the 2 feet of snow so I could entertain the 8 kids who showed up. Whatever. Good luck to you LI ladies for tomorrow!

this is my first year in the city.. and im not looking foward to moments like that. But if I have to go in and there is snow out there... i better only have 8 of my 26 kids in there HAHAH.. one could only hope!

YES! Do you teach high school? If so, be prepared for less than half turnout on any snow day - even if it snows like 3 inches. Kids watch the news and it says, '1 to 3 inches of snow in the City, but up to a foot North and West of the City' and all they hear is, 'blah blah blah 12 INCHES blah blah blah' and they stay home.

It's actually pretty fun on those days - the halls are quiet, and only the nicest, best students show up, and you get to play games with them and have a pretty good time.
