aww congratulations to him! I remember the first few days of quitting... it was miserable. Nothing took my mind off smoking and, no matter what I was doing, I couldn't stop thinking about cigarettes. Be patient with him!

Re: NWR: So guess what?
Congrats to him. I am against smoking so much. My 2 sisters smoke and i hate it. I used to smoke (a pack and a half a day), but when I met FH I kicked the habit and have been smoke free for 4 years. Seriously it is not worth your life. My sister's FH brother in law was just diagnosised with pancreatic cancer. He is only 42, and has a 6 month old daughter. The tumor is in a place where surgery is not an option. My heart has been breaking all week of this sad news. He smoked and now he and his family are going through this difficult time. Please pray for them My point is that quiting is the right choice, because smoking is a terrible addicttion. I know I was so addicted til this day I am wondering how I quit.
Your FH deserves a reward for making such a healthy choice.

FH quit smoking in Jan and he first tried the nicotine gum and within a week, he really wasnt using it..and instead was hooked on chewing gum...that might work

I heard sucking on alot of hard candy? An old co worker of mine did that when she wanted to quit. She carried a bag of life savers with her all the time.

Yay! Good for him. That is great that he finally did this. I know you were hoping that he would quit so you must be really happy. I used to smoke and when I quit, I was very irritable. You seriously go through withdrawal. Give him time and be patient. He'll get better soon enough.

i know this is going to sound weird but... sometimes it's not just about the nicotine, it's the 'hand to mouth' motion that is a bad habit also which is why a lollipop substitute often helps! my friend used nicorette gum and that helped her... when my FH was quitting I used to give him positive reinforcements and I would say something like, 'if you don't smoke for one week, i'll buy you a present!'
