NWR: Spinoff to kris_gets_hitched's dream post - Lucid Dreaming
Have any of you ever had a 'lucid dream'?? A lucid dream is when you're dreaming and then you suddenly realize that you're dreaming and you can completely control your dream (you can fly, eat food that you can actually taste, have people in your dream, etc). You actually have all of your senses. There are various things that you can do to increase your chances of having a lucid dream. The first time I had one I was in college and it freaked me out!!!! I had NO intention of even having one!! But after that I thought it was really cool and wanted to have more. I've had a bunch of lucid dreams within the last 4 years and wanted to see if anyone else has had them.

I think this happened to me before, but I actually thought it was an acid flashback.
(It probably was)

I think drugs can bring them on sometimes...but they also occur without any drugs.
It is such an awesome experience and I feel as though not too many people know about it and they should! It is such a fun experience! You can literally do anything you want in your dream -- and you're in complete control.

I've never had it go quite that far, but I have gotten to the point where I realize I'm in a dream...mostly its something that's way too good to be true so I get to a point in the dream where I'm like 'I MUST be dreaming because this wouldn't happen in my real life'

I often realize I'm dreaming (thank GOD b.c I have nightmares like all the time), but I never had an experience like that

If you look online there are all sorts of exercises (meditation amongst other things) you can do when awake that can lead you to have lucid dreams. It definitely takes practice, and can get frustrating if you keep trying and it doesn't happen but overtime it becomes easier. If you are interested, one book to check out is 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming' by Stephen Laberge, Ph.D. In the book it tells you about different things you can do to increase the chance of having lucid dreams.

ITA that it can become annoying. Sometimes I just want to go to sleep and not think about anything until the next morning...and then all of a sudden as I'm falling asleep I feel myself falling asleep but completely aware of it and then I try to force myself to wake up. It's fun to have them, but only when you want to have them, not all the time.

no, never had them but sounds awesome! i know i would prob be scared though at first.
my scaieriest dream experience happened twice when it was like two different parts of by brain werent working together as they normally do. my body was trying to wake up from a dream but i couldnt open my eyes or get out of the dream so i tried to scream to get out of it and it takes a while to the point of my cryingcuz im so scared that i cant wake up. happened twice, scariest thing ever! i dont mean to hi jack the thread but has this happened to anyone?
now that i read up on lucid dreams a little, i actually do think i have had some, not very intense once where i can do supernatural things but ones that i can control what happens to some degree

OMG!! That is the scariest thing ever...I have had that happen to me!! It feels like your body is paralyzed right?? You're waking up but you can't move or anything no matter how much you try. I've also had a similar experience to that where I was waking up but I was still dreaming and it felt like a demon was on my back preventing me from moving (this was part of the dream but it felt like I was awake!). I was trying to scream but couldn't. And then eventually I was able to move again. It was sooo scary.

I vaguely remember having a dream like this once where I was able to control things. It must've been a long time ago b/c I don't remember the details, but I remember that I was able to control things I did for the most part.

ur actually basically 'paralyzed' during most dreams....
the part of ur brain that controls movement is shut down while you are in dreaming sleep...
this is because, if it weren't shut down, we would actually ACT OUT our dreams......
take 2 seconds to think about that.....now be thankful we can't move while we dream!!!

Yes...THANK GOD we can't act out our dreams! That would be crazy!!
It is scary though when this part of your brain is still shut down when your body is trying to wake up. It's really terrifying because you can't move!
