hey! this past semester ive had a grad school student teacher with me part time as she works on her masters. Her last day is approaching and i'd like to give her a little something to say thanks. I would like to get her something 'teacher'-ish that she can use for a long time, like a really great book, but im having a hard time picking something out. Any suggestions? She is already a substitute teacher so I dont want anything that is only for new teachers. I've been trying to think of something that I would use in my classroom thats not too cheesy, but im drawing a blank........any ideas? TIA

Re: NWR- teachers
What do you teach? I often give my student teachers a stack of those eyewitness books for their school library, and a professional book about something that interests them. Sometimes I give Teaching with Love and Logic, Strategies that Work, or something like that. Then I get them a basket of relaxing bath items to take the edge off!

Strategies that Work is the best! And there's a new edition out. But bath items or booze are really the what they need.

Just be careful....I had to buy Strategies that Work for school....she might already have it.

Such a great gift for a young teacher!!!

Re: NWR- teachers
ooh what about making a basket of little doo-dads she can use for when she has her own classroom. You can put in things like highlighters, markers, stamps, pens, stickers etc.

Re: NWR- teachers
Stickers or stampers/stamp pads come in very handy no matter what the grade. One semester I gave one of those huge sticker books to my student teacher and another time I found a great stamp kit at Costco for about $20 that I gave to my student teacher.

For every student teacher I have had, I have made a basket of materials to get them started. I teach elementary so it may be different for you, but I put in things like post its, notecards, pens, sentence strips, incentive charts, stickers, paper clips, etc.
