I am an English teacher and I have a leave replacement position that began in March and ends November 12th. I have applied everywhere I can imagine for a permanent job. I applied to every opening on OLAS and went on a few interviews. I just went on a second interview at a magnet school in the Bronx. I had such a good feeling about it, but I just received a call informing me that someone else was selected. I don't know what I am going to do in November! Paying for the wedding, paying my school bills, moving out...my second job and subbing combined will not even come close to cutting it. Sorry, this is a bit of a vent. I am just wondering if any teachers found jobs mid-year. The only thing I can think of is that I might somehow find another leave replacement. If anyone knows of any openings for an English teacher, let me know! If you actually read all of this, thank you!

Re: NWR: Teachers
hang in there! it is so tough finding a teaching job!
perhaps you could speak to someone in the district where you are working in now? perhaps they know of things opening up (leave replacement, some subbing, etc. etc.) so that you could plan in advance. most districts like to keep people they know and another leave in a place that you're already in is not too bad as you know people now and they know you.

I am in between job right now and paying for a wedding coupled with saving for a house is alot on us. It's the worst feeling.
FH is a phys ed teacher and it's been really rough to find a job. He took the NYPD test and plans to start the Jan academy if nothing in teaching opens up. I know that doesn't help but keep your head up anyway! Something will work out!

I'm sorry you are going through this! I was just wondering if you applied online at all the LI school districts regardless of whether there are open positions or not? Also would you consider the city (going through the Board of Ed)? They always have openings there...I taught for 3 years in the South Bronx because when I graduated I couldn't find a position anywhere on LI. No experience and I was terrible on interviews....! Finally I landed a PT position in my district that lead to FT the following year and i know my experience in the city helped me a lot as far as getting the job.

Thank you for all of the help everyone! I am certified in English Language Arts, 7-12. I would pretty much go anywhere at this point! I will try to remain optimistic!

I work for the dept of ed (Brklyn)... i dont think it will hurt to send ur resume directly to principals of the schools close to where u want to work. Princpals have a lot of say and your resume has more chances of getting to the right person.

Re: NWR: Teachers
this is a tough year. we excessed people in almost all subject areas in june. you might consider tutoring (freelance or w/ an agency). it's good $$, especially if you combine it with subbing.
