NWR: Teachers....

Anyone out there a teacher? If so....do you know of any potential jobs in your district next year? I feel like everyone is excessing and I haven't heard of many openings. I really need a job!! I've been teaching for 3 years and just got excessed. Of course they do it now while I'm in the middle of planning a wedding. I teach secondary math or business. If anyone out there hears of anything I would really appreciate a heads up! Thanks so much!

I'm in the same boat here... my FH is a high school biology teacher, same deal 3 years at the same school, and he just found out he has no job for September due to declining numbers of new students, which will be really nice RIGHT after the wedding if he's unemployed while I'm in school. If anyone knows of science positions PLEASE let me know!!

I will let you know if during our search we come across any jobs for you!! It's a bad time for so many of us in this job market.

Email a resume and a cover letter with position noted in subject line to: [email protected]

They're looking for math, science and debate teachers.

Let me know if you hear anything about an opening for an English teacher...that's what I am...

NYCDOE. I've been teaching for 4 years now (certified for math and ELA). I know there are job openings, but I'm not sure if they are only hiring from within. Apply and see. Especially for math. That's a big need in the city.

Also, apply to New Visions. They have 76 schools (some new, some alternative) and are a branch of NYCDOE. I have an interview with them today.

Thanks! The city told me they would not be hiring and they are most likely going to excess.....is that not true?

Getting a position as a teacher next year doesn't look very promising right now. I heard on the news that they are laying off 8,000 teachers in New York for the next school year. For the last year they had a hiring freeze which still has not been lifted, and doesn't seem as it's going to any time soon. I myself will be screwed for yet another year. However, if your husband does science or math, I hear there's a better chance of finding a position since those subjects are in high demand along with special ed and ESL.

My FH applied to them over the weekend and got an email today that they accepted his application and will send it out, bla bla... do you know how long it took to get an interview after your applied? And are you interviewing with particular schools/principals? Do they tell you where the schools are before you have to commit? (Sorry for all the questions but we weren't sure). GOOD LUCK today on your interview!!

I really don't see how they are. Apply to New Visions. Seriously. I have a job interview today with them. You dont need to be a NYC teacher already. They are hiring for ALL subjects all over the 5 boroughs.

I know there are openings at my school and my old school, so I dont see how they will excess. They always threaten that, but especially with math, I don't see it.

It took about 2-3 weeks after I got that first email about being accepted for them to set up this phone interview. The phone interview will see where I should be placed (they have 76 schools). I will tell you more after 430 when it's over. After this, other principals will start contacting me for interviews (I think). Yes, you will know the school before committing. On the application and with the phone interview you give your preferences as well. Like I said I prefer Queens/Manhattan/BK.

Good luck to your FH!!!!! Thanks! I'll let you know if I find out anything new after the interview.

My FH teaches here! He is in a similar position - he's a TA and has been for 4 years now . . . we are just grateful he has a job and some security . . . but who knows.

One of the license officer's from DOE told me that it's true in regards to most any school. You should look into TEACH NYC facebook, that's where you can find most of the lastest information from DOE.

TEACH NYC

ETA: You can also ask the recruitment office any direct questions from there, they're usually quick to answer online than on the phone.
