NWR: Teachers, how did you prepare for the LAST

I'm taking the LAST in about two weeks, but I don't know where to find information about how the test is and how to prepare for it. I need some help!

I am a teacher, you cant really prepare for what is going to be on the test, but they have the prep books that you can practice with (that is what I did) just to give you an idea of what types of queestions to expect...Good Luck!! If you need any help aslk me

Do they have these prep books in most libraries? I'm not really worried about the content, i'm more worried about how the test is structured but I guess i'll check out some libraries to look for some prep books...thanks girls

You can't really prepare. I took the practice tests but I don't think i made a difference.

when i took it, which was over 10 years ago
there were:

80 multiple choice questions and then i had to write an essay about a given topic

ohh i am not in grad school as of yet...hopefully this Fall !!!!!

but should I take the LAST before I get in?? Is it good to just get it over with or should I wait?

And since I really want to work in a school and get my name out there should I take the Teachers Assistant Test to be able to work with students in a classroom - cause according to alot of people you need that test now to do so. And can you still became a certified teacher even after you were a certified teachers assistant?

thanks!!

Good Luckk on the LAST!

I took the LAST during my junior year of undergrad. If I were you I'd take it now and get it out of the way.

I took the LAST and the ATSW the same day!! I know I am crazy. It took 6 hours but the tests were so simple. I had no clue what the tests even were, just kinda showed up. Plus it was final bids day (sorority stuff)so I had no sleep the night before. Its really not hard. Lots of multiple choice and maybe two essays (or maybe that was the ATSW) i truthfully don't remember. When you sign up for the test they usually send you a practice booklet, I think

I did sample test and literally read the synopisis of all of the classics on Amazon.com and studied some of my grmaamr and vocab boos that I used with upper grade students.

I brought a review book. Kaplan makes one.

The only thing I did for all 3 tests was take a practice test online the night before the test.

i took the LAST the ATSW and the CST in Multi subject and in Special Ed. They were all fine. the CST's i think were more challenging though. I didnt prepare for any, i didnt see how i could.

you will do fine

Also... there is no harm in taking the LAST earlier. Get it out of the way.

Anyway.. there shouldnt be any problem getting certified as a teacher because you already got certfied as a TA.

I don't think there's really any good way to prepare since the questions are so general. Just go into it well-rested and you'll do fine!

Can't really study for it because you never know exactly what they are going to ask. Get a prep book if you want and take some sample tests to get an idea of the types of questions. You can also just look through the one they provide on their website. It's really not that hard, so don't stress over it- just a lot of reading.

Good luck!

I didn't know how to prepare either. I did the questions in the preparation book but that was it. It's general knowledge so there is nothing I can really even tell you to study.
