This is for a friend, I am not a teacher but I am curious.
If you are not granted Tenure is your career basically over?

its risky bc they obviously can get rid of you, but cant you reapply for it? Why was she turned down?

I'm not even 100% positve she was yet. But long story short there was a problem last year that honestly was the principals fault and since the principal was new (her first year there) and wanted to save her own a$$ turned it all on my friend. It is in her permanent record. There has been many issues with this principal. Like she told my friend her observation was really good. Then tore her apart in the actual write up... things like that.
however,my friend was telling me that basically once you are turned down. You will more than likely never find another job in another district. Especially since there are so many teachers and so few jobs.

Re: NWR: TEACHERS I HAVE A QUESTION
I have absolutely no idea how it works, but one of my good friends was denied tenure, and she got it the next year. So maybe your friend can stick it out (not sure if that's possible, sounds like a horrid situation from your story)?

It has been. For some reason I thought she told me if she didn't get it. She was basically being let go at the end of this year as well.
I am so nervous for her. She finds out today a definite answer.

Re: NWR: TEACHERS I HAVE A QUESTION
I am still subbing so obviously hadn't been at that point yet BUT when applying for a new job they always ask you 'have you been denied tenure'. I'm sure if they see that it doesn't look that great. But if you do get in and they observe you themselves and see if you are good that's all that matter because the building principal can make it happen for you. It all depends, I feel. Tell her good luck, i've been subbing for a year and a half and can't take it anymore.

If anything they will keep giving her probationary (sp) positions or leave replacement positions - but every district deals w. this sorta stuff differently.
Does she have a union rep she can talk to?
PS - i'm not a teacher but FH was just tenured so i know a little about the process..
i wish her the best b/c i know how hard it is!

I feel like even teachers with tenure aren't safe now... look at all of the teachers who might be let go in Lindenhurst. Most of them were tenured.

Yea, her union rep is a d-bag. Hasn't been able to do much. I believe he will be at her meeting with her today but I am not positive.
ETA: Thank you for the well wishes for her

I agree, although I was asking on more of the issue reasons for her not school budget reasons. Either way it is crazy how many are being let go this year all over

Nope. I know in my district you can get a 4th year if you dont get tenure after 3.
