I am not a cop. But I have many friends that are cops. All I have to say is that it is a hard job. It's not easy being a cop and knowing that there is a chance you might be hurt or killed. A cop once told me that the chances of a cop using his/her weapon is pretty rare. They obviously prepare and train for the day they have to use it, but I'm sure they hope not to really have to. Being an undercover cop is tough. I am not saying that what the cops did was right. I think it is a tragedy. They have to live w. that for the rest of their lives. I think they probably got really scared and kept shooting. I think that everyone involved in this case is a victim. Hopefully nothing bad will happen to the cops involved or their families. Does anyone know if these cops get to go back to work for the NYPD?
I understand that it is hard being a cop. I've known quite a few, but based on how rare it is that people use their weapons (and just common sense) there's a difference between getting shot at three or four times and over thirty.
I don't believe there should be more violence and riots to try to get back at them for what they did, because violence is never the answer, but they should at least have some kind of judicial consequences for what they did. At this point it's not about the fact that they pay with their emotions/memories/guilt/etc. it's about the fact that once one person gets away with it, other people will try as well. They are not untouchable, and not finding them guilty is sending out the message that they are.
Ok, I need to calm down now and go play with a kitten or something.

I get your point...but I don't think Sean Bell and the cops share the same burden. He's dead. Period.

You can't appeal from an acquittal. Double jeopardy prevents that. In all probability, though, there will be a civil suit for money damages.

I think everyone agrees that being a cop is not s easy job but, whats sad is that you cant justify the number of shots

This is so ridiculous. I understand it's hard to be a cop but that shouldn't mean that they are above the law. No One should be above the law. And it may have been an accident but if I accidentilly ran someone over I know I'd be charged with something.

It makes me a bit sick! I think that at the very least the one cop who shop off more than 30 rounds should have gotten jail time!

100% agreed. Ugh, this is such a terrible subject- there is so much to say but don't want to get all irritated going into it.

I'm not. I knew those cops would get off easy. They probably know every person in the justice system. Gotta love politics!

I think it's pretty clear- why did so many shots have to be fired? It's like the whole Diallo case but to another level. Despite not knowing EVERYTHING, those cops should have gotten a little bit of time.
