Most people are shocked to hear this. I grew up in Queens with a tiny backyard so we obviously didn't have a pool. I only started to learn to doggy paddle when I started dating FH. If and when we live in LI (and if we have a pool)..I promised myself I will learn.
Am I the only one??

I can swim... learned when I was really little...
BUT... I can't ride a bike!! Never learned and really don't want to. FFIL keeps saying he's going to teach me, and I'm like NAAAAH. That's okay, haha.

I can't either. I can swim underwater, but not above. And I have no excuse, my parents sent me to two different sets of swimming lessons when I was a kid.

Re: NWR... this is embarrassing to admit..
I'm a really good swimmer, but FH can't swim...and he's terrified of open water.
So when we go to the beach, if I go way out there, he freaks.
Heeheehee.

Barely! I can keep myself above water...but doubt I could save myself in a mildly dangerous situation. I'm all about the doggy paddle. LOL

Re: NWR... this is embarrassing to admit..
I was on the swimming and diving team in high school (but I'm a TERRIBLE swimmer when it comes to speed. I was more of a diver)...
I learned at the town pool or camp or something...
I know plenty of people who can't, though... no biggie.......
usually you just hang around where you can stand anyway, so doggie paddle is fine!!!!!!!!

Haha, don't be embarassed! I can swim but I freak out in the ocean, I am honestly frightened of it if I cant touch the bottom and being only 5 feet tall, that's pretty much always!

Re: NWR... this is embarrassing to admit..
Me either! i can float, doggy paddle and maybe do about a quick dash across a small pool...LOL
I can't believe how many other people can't swim.. It does make me feel better (hope that doesn't sound bad... you know what I mean).
FH is supposedly not a good swimmer..I can't tell who's good or not but he says he is just ok and he can't float at all. But he grew up in Ronkonkoma where almost everyone had a pool growing up.
We should organize a group LI Weddings swimming lesson. LOL

Re: NWR... this is embarrassing to admit..
I am terrified of the ocean and I do not know how to swim and I refuse to go underwater in a pool!!
I took swimming and diving lessons when I was younger. never passed beginners level. eventually when I was like 11 and everyone else was like 4, I gave up out of embarassment.

I was about to say the same thing!
FH can't get over that I never learned to ride a bike....never learned because I had no need to, and in my area where I grew up there was a lot of street traffic - not really safe for a 10 year old to ride a bike.

Re: NWR... this is embarrassing to admit..
Hey, I was born on an island and lived there for 6 years of my life and I can't swim; so trust me you have nothing to be embarrassed about. I even took swimming lessons and I still can't swim.
