NWR: this is ridiculous... (sorry long)

Original post by jgl

Sorry but had to vent...

so my sister bought me a rabbit for Xmas, from a pet store.

After a few days we noticed his eyes didnt look right. we took him to the vet and he had PINK EYE. OK so we take care of that and shortly after he started sneezing and has a conjested nose. When he sneezes he sneezes for a while, and he does it all day. Again take him to the vet, get medication, she says he has 'the snuffles'. The vet said that this is related to the pink eye. He has been on this medication since January for the sneezing/congestion. We talk to the Dr. weekly, she told us its probably cronic and will take a while to go away.

now at this point its been over 3 months, and he is still sneezing and the congestion is still there. Now the vet contacted a specialist (yes this all for a rabbit) who said to try these other 2 medications, because if we dont get rid of the infection it could spred to his ears...

This is insane. I havent spent this much at the vet for my 2 dogs... arrggg... And i think my sister only paid about $50 for him . Its not the money, i love the rabbit,, but these vet bills are getting crazy.. and what if this medicine doesnt work and we have to see the specialist?????

anyway, the vet said that most likely he got 'the sunffles' from another rabbit at the pet store..

I really feel like calling them up!!!!! They probably wont even care!!

OMG i can totally relate about the bills...I have 2 bunnies!!!

First - I get winston when hes 3 from someone I used to work with. Her kids stopped taking care of him. I have him for 3 weeks and one day hes a lil sniffly, but more looks really weird. I take him to my vet, who notices his balance is off...So we take him to a specialist in dix hills and have allllllllll these tests run...about 200.00 worth...to find out he has Encephalitozoon cuniculi or Head Tilt, which is from a protozoa that hes had since birth that has finally attacked his brain. I didnt believ the vet at first, until i did some intense research. I had him on steriods at first, but I had to take him every 2 weeks for a checkup to get more meds!!! that was over 100 bi weekley!!! Soo after 3 weeks I weaned him off to see if he was in pain, and he wasnt. Hes been fine ever since, just to the side...hell never regain equilibrium and he cant jump or hop,but hes the best rabbit ever.....my family doesnt want me to take him when me and FH move out!!

Second - FH and I get Lucy, a 30lb French Lop which is black chinchilla color.... GORGEOUS!!! French Lops are used for food in other countries. We were just looking in pet stores bored one day and saw her and loooooooved her.... WELL... HER turne dout to be a HIM!!! (rabbits are HARD to sex). He sprayed EVERYWHERE!!! Winston is litterbox trained (w yesterdays news..best litter ever!!) My vet went on vaca and I couldnt wait that long..he was peeing everywhere.. I get a reccommendation from antoher woman I worked with about a vet who spays/neuters rabbits....(since many dont) and he agreed to do it. Lucy gets neutered and SEEMS fine......and then DIES right after!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were heartbroken!!!!!!!! We fought and fought and fought with this VET....and he MADE us pay the 200.00!!!!!!!!!!

Third - FH buys me Cookie, a mini (well not so mini) lop that I hid from my dad for 6 mons (lol she thumps her foot non stop loud and one day after a while of hearing the noise he was about to call a company to check out pipes when one day he decided to look in my room...surprise!!) and shes spraying everywhere...so I go to get her spayed by my wonderful vet for 300.00 including medicines and followups!!! THen she ate her stitches and had to have a cone put around her neck!!!

Soooooo I sympathize!!! BUT I LOOOOOVE MY BUNNIES!!! I dont have a pic of Lucy on here...But heres winston and cookie

OMG that is horrible about Lucy I hate when animals die...
Winston sounds realy cool!! hehe... glad he is doing better!!!! THank go Rocky doesnt have that (at least i hope not) he is kinda wacky!!! I was just putting transparencies in a bbinder and he was walking all over them sliding.. but he kept coming back to do it again haha

We actually thought rocky was a girl too. The vet even thought so. they when we brought him back she said 'ummm he's aboy, you might want to change his name' at the time Rocky was Gracie hehe..

Rocky is a boy.. do we have toworry about him spraying? we had another boy bunny years ago named Bugs and he never sprayed. He was aweseome too!!

Then we got Patches. She was such a good rabbit. she would chill on the front lawn while my mom gardened. She suddenly got sick and lost control of her bowls. I was getting her to bring her to the vet and she died in my arms.

its so sad that these poor animals get sick like that.. they cant tell you waht is wrong with them. And the vet bills arrggg... ok enough of that hehe

Re: NWR: this is ridiculous... (sorry long)

We leave Winston out on the lawn all day in the backyard. He chills under these 2 trees, he dug some holes so no one can get to him... hes too funny....hes out 8 hours sometimes, but never at 90 degrees... im trying to find some pics...

I dont think so if he hasnt already. Ive always had 2 bunnies at a time or more, so usually one is fighting for dominance, and since i want everyone to just get a long and not a million rabbits, i opt for the neuter and spay, and bc theyll live longer..

its funny bc i thought cookie was a boy bc she would hump winston all the time, and never in the correct place!!! shed hump his side, his face, etc...it was sooooooooooooo wierd!!!

If rocky isnt spraying now, he wont, unless you bring another bunny home and around him alot, then he might, but its usually really bad during sexual maturity, which is 6mons.
