so my sister bought me a rabbit for Xmas, from a pet store.
After a few days we noticed his eyes didnt look right. we took him to the vet and he had PINK EYE. OK so we take care of that and shortly after he started sneezing and has a conjested nose. When he sneezes he sneezes for a while, and he does it all day. Again take him to the vet, get medication, she says he has 'the snuffles'. The vet said that this is related to the pink eye. He has been on this medication since January for the sneezing/congestion. We talk to the Dr. weekly, she told us its probably cronic and will take a while to go away.
now at this point its been over 3 months, and he is still sneezing and the congestion is still there. Now the vet contacted a specialist (yes this all for a rabbit) who said to try these other 2 medications, because if we dont get rid of the infection it could spred to his ears...
This is insane. I havent spent this much at the vet for my 2 dogs... arrggg... And i think my sister only paid about $50 for him . Its not the money, i love the rabbit,, but these vet bills are getting crazy.. and what if this medicine doesnt work and we have to see the specialist?????
anyway, the vet said that most likely he got 'the sunffles' from another rabbit at the pet store..
I really feel like calling them up!!!!! They probably wont even care!!
did she get him from a pet store? i thought that stores usually have a policy that the animal is healthy at time of purchase and it they get sick within said period of time that customer is reimbursed. i mean i hope they reimburse the vet bills, not return the poor bunny. i would be too scared to buy an animal without a guarantee like that.
i really hope he is ok. i love animals, what is bunny's name?

Re: NWR: this is ridiculous... (sorry long)
p.s. really tho i know how u feel with vet bills!!! sometimes they get way outta hand but you feel like hes part of the family and you dont want to say no! ' i have a 13 year old cat who was diagnosed with Diabetes last year.. he spent a week in the hospital and almost 2k later he came home and now he gets insulin shots 2 times a day! hes like a little old man! but hes part of the family! its crazy but my mom said i wouldnt let my son suffer so why should the cat! but we agreeded when he was really sick that if he didnt show signs of improvement then we would think about our options (soooo sad but we didnt want him to suffer) he had kidney failure and loss of muscle ... all that aside hes doing AWESOME and it was totally worth it!

this vet is actualyl really good. she is ontop of this. we call her she calls us she is calling other Dr.s
we asked about the digs and she said its not a problem. this all started witht he Pink Eye and that was 2 days after I got him
And Megan... He is def part of the family and I would never Not pay the vet biulls or take him in. I feel bad for him. And like you said, we do what we have to!! You can't let them suffer. My dog broke her leg and she needed to see an orthapedic surgeon... $2,500 but it was wiorth it we love her!!

Rocky is sooooooo cute!
maybe you can get copies of the vet reports and bills and bring them to the store to prove he was sick right after he came home. they might give you a hard time since it was a while ago, but you might be able to get something out of it.

if rocky got pink eye from the store then most likely other animals were infected and maybe the store already knows about an outbreak. if they received a lot of complaints about other animals, they might legally have to help you.

I had a rabbit growing up named rocky he was all black, and years later one named frosty who was all white... Just a minor thing, a thought, if you have pine litter in his cage you know those really fine pine chips, try not using that and switch to newspaper pellets or something else without scent, frosty was allergic to the pine, yes a rabbit allergic to pine, and his eyes were always goopy and runny, once we got rid of anything smelly near him, he got better....
Don't know if that helps... LOL I had my senior pics taken with my rabbit ;) I think they're great pets! Miss mine soooo bad.

Unfortunately, you'll be wasting your time if you call the Pet Store.... they won't care. I totally sympathize with you, I've been thru it all and then some with our dog... You'd fall over if I told you how much we've spent on vet bills in the 2 years we've had him ().
Have you considered pet health insurance. It save you some money... This is the one most vets will recommend to you... VPI
Good luck!!

I've purchased my dogs at pet stores and the 'lemon law' with them was that I had to bring them to the vet within 2 weeks of purchase and if the vet diagnosed them with something serious, the store had to refund my money or replace the animal. That's the state law. I don't know if this applies to all animals, but if it does, then they probably won't cover the bills.
