NWR: This stinks

FH found out he has a hernia. He is in NYPD so he can't work and he is basically locked in the house. He cannot leave unless he calls in and this can only be during the day. He has to get an MRI and they think surgery so this will be at least a month. We also had to cancel my birthday dinner because he can't be out at night. It's so hard because I live in SI and he lives in Suffolk so it's hard enough to see him as it is and now he can't come here. At least this is not life threatening and he will be better soon.

Sorry for my vent, I am just overwhelmed. I wish he was better. He is in so much pain and I hate that I can't see him.

Ughh no! Those are sooo painful!!! I'm sorry to hear...but if it makes u feel anybetter my FH had 3! and 3 surgeries...luckily he's A-ok now ...a lot had to do with lifting....but I don't know exactly why it happens. Don't worry he'll be fine!

I don't understand why 'he can't be out at night' thing??? usually its so painful you don't want to go out at all but...at night? what's the diff?

He can't be out because it is a line of duty injury- meaning it happened at work. He only has a window of time he can be out during the day and he has to call in and let them know when he leaves and when he gets back. The pain comes and goes and he does not want to feel like he is on house arrest. We have several parties that he can't attend and he has other things he can't go to like next weeks mets/ yankees game which he has tickets too. It's hard having to stay in and very frustrating that you cannot do things that you normally would.

Aww ok now I understand...my FH's was due to over training sports in college...type of deal..but yeah if its on the job it's understandable. But he'll be fine! don't worry the surgery will be fine too, he'll feel much better afterwards,

Sorry to hear that! That really suks that he has to call in just to leave the house.... hope he feels better soon and you can get back to your normal lives

That really does stink!!!! I had a 4yr old in my class last year who had one and she was only out for a week so there is a chance for a speedy recovery!! Its also a pretty easy procedure now, they go in through the bellybutton so there is no scaring, I had it done when i was three and i have 2 huge scars. I hope that helps gives you optimism for a speedy recovery!!!! as for the staying home part... that really bites!!!!

dont worry....FH had a hernia and had his surgery on this past Valentines day....is he getting it done laproscopically?? thats the only thing I recommend....FH had it done that way and he had a much faster recovery than his friend who didn't....he was back at the gym about a month later....but back to work 2 weeks later...its only REALLY bad for like a few days...the nurse told him to walk alot and move to get it to heal faster...
