NWR: this website pisses me off

NWR: this website pisses me off

If you are an NYC employee of any kind (teacher, firefighter, police officer, et al) or a SUNY employee, you should and WILL be thoroughly pissed off by this website that Newsday proudly posted:

www.seethroughny.net

It lists ALL salaries of EVERY city and SUNY employee, with promises to post salaries of Long Island teachers next. Also, it has a section where there are PDF files of every single school district's contract--not just LI and the city, but EVERY DISTRICT IN THE STATE.

It just made me REALLY sad to know that my NYC teacher counterparts do the same work and then some, but get paid much less than they should. And it especially pissed me off that one of my college profs at SUNY Geneseo--my violin teacher for four years who has been at Geneseo for at least 25 years--makes almost $25,000 less than I do as a sixth year elementary orchestra teacher on Long Island.

I now understand your pain, and I respect you even more.

yup I've been to this site...my mom wanted to see what they put her as.....but its funny b/c a lot of city employees make a lot more with overtime so she said its def not an accurate number.

Very interesting site. I just looked up FH's cousin who lies about everything and he is making about 50K less than he said.

That sites been around for a long time. You have to take into consideration that the full salary isn't on there ie: state employees have a base salary as well as inconvenience pay, location pay, shift differential, etc. So it's not really accurate.

Honestly, we work for the state and I think the taxpayers have a right to know what their taxes are going towards. It definitely isn't accurate though because for teachers it doesn't take into account per session - coverages, afterschool jobs, summer school.

I'm just afraid that a parent could call up the Board of Ed after looking at this site and say, 'Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Jones are HORRIBLE teachers--they don't DESERVE this kind of pay.' or 'Mrs. Johnson is just a music teacher--why should she get paid more than a classroom teacher?'

Of course, I don't think one person would be heard, but that one person could get a bandwagon of angry parents going, and that could smell trouble.

It is the freedom of information act.....any public employee is subject to it. Tax payers have a right to see what the salary is.

OMG this is scary. I looked mine up and it was on the money!!! I then decided to plug in to see how much my principal and AP make because Ive always wanted to know and almost felt guilty for looking!!!

I think its too much information for random people to know... I dunno- I kinda feel violated lol

If all of our salaries are plastered on there, then EVERYONE who works should be on there... not fair!
