NWR: Tipping at a house closing??!!! UPDATED...

Has anybody ever heard of this? FH's father said youre supposed to tip someone at the closing to speed things up a little bit...does anybody know of that?!?! Let me know! TIA

It's customary but not necessary to tip the title closer..anywhere from $75-$150 I've seen. But, it's done at the end and wont' make things go faster. It's basically because they only make a fee from the Seller and it's usually about $250. But they are responsible to clear the liens on the house, record your new deed and mortgage..so I would tip them, so they go that extra step to make sure everything is done correctly.

I've never seen or heard fo tipping anyone......it's bad enough there are a million fees, etc. you pay for...to tip on top of that and someone that expected to do a job that they are getting paid for. No way!

how much are u supposed to tip them and why??

its customary because they do a lot of work to get the title clean, to help fix things if needed at the closing and make sure the pay off is correct. We tipped $100. Our attorney told us to do so

same here - we tipped the title company $100...

I have never, ever heard of tipping anyone at a closing and I have been to many.

heck no! you're writing otu checks for thousands of dollars....

you don't need to tip a soul...they're getting enough of your moeny as it is.

Update...we had our closing yesterday...we were done signing everything in a half hour...we were just waiting on photocopies, etc. We didn't tip anyone, and we werent told to tip anyone by our attorney. I'm a happy homeowner now!
