Ladies please tell me if you have had a similar situation...I have a 5 pound maltese who I took to the vet today to get his 'annual' booster shots...I got him home tonight at 4 hours later he is vomititing and shaking like a leaf...completely lethargic.. I'm so nervous and he's not eating or drinking....anyone with small dogs ever had this happen?

hth - i usually take my puppy to click here and they attend to emergency situations. I would suggest calling them and telling them exactly what's happening with the puppy. They can tell you what to do or if you should take him in to see them. HTH.

its been a long time since ive had a dog, but when my puppy got his first shots after we got him, he actually was puking and shaking on the ride home, and the shook and slept the rest of the night... they told us that it was normal and he was fine the next day. HTH

sometimes they get fevers after the shots when they are small. But if the vomiting persists I would definitely call them. Try to feed him an ice cube also. It cools down their tounge. They really get nervous witht he shots and such, so just stick by him :)

Call the vet and tell them what happened...maybe he is allergic to something in the shots. Poor thing!

When my dog was a puppy i got her shots and her face blew up like a bowling ball and she couldnt breathe...i had to take her to the emergency vet and get her shots of cortizone and benadryl. They said if i hadnt brought her, she would have died!!!!! =(

i have a 4 pound chiwawa (i still can't spell the breed but it the taco bell dog) and the first time she got her shots she did throw up and then was just laying around for the rest of the day but then the next day she was fine but if he keeps throwing up i would call the vet. i know the first couple of months we had her i was on the phone with the vet at least once a week. whenever she has thrown up i make her some plain chicken and cut it up real small with some plain white rice it always seemed to help her stomach.

Update:: Ladies -
So my little pup didn't do very well last night was having like convulsions the whole night...I did get him to eat though, I hand fed him like a baby all over again....he was just so sleepy.
This morning I woke up with him and he was much better although he is taking his time walking and isn't his usual jumpy self. I think his little tush hurts him so bad where he got the shot. He still shakes a little bit when you touch his tush but he is doing much better. He ate again this morning but is still sleeping.
Just for your future reference...I called the vet today (tied to call the emergency line last night no one ever picked up) and the vet said that when they get their annual shots the little dogs tend to have a worse reaction only because it makes them so sore...and she said the vomiting could have been because of all the excitement and sometimes then tend to get sick on the car ride home from the shots. What a night it was!

aww your poor baby!! I hope he is feeling better. My dog throws up or something because he ate something he shouldnt have and I feel so bad!

Yes thank you ladies I needed the support...I was so scared - he is doing much better, still walking like he got a stick up his butt But yesterday his Grandma (my mom ) watched him and he had a egg and turkey omlette, some childrens motrin and lots of love!!!

It's hysterical....my Mom actually says she is BG (Beautiful Grandma) ha ha I love the Grandpup!

yes this happened w/ my yorkie - I took him back to the vet and they gave him some benadryl.
now whenever he has shots, they give him benadryl first.

I'm so glad he is ok. I had a maltese for 12 years and he was the best. Your dog looks a lot like him.
