Has anyone ever stayed at a hostel, or a cheap hotel in Venice that they can recommend? Should be fairly close to the center, but can still be a bit off the beaten path. Thanks!

The first time I went to Venice we rented an apartment in Dosodoro section. It slept 6 and was about $1250 a week. The other time I went I stayed at The Hotel American. It was amazing! Breakfast was included and they made fresh cappuchino and homemade fresh baked chocolate filled croissants! It was by the Academia Bridge on a canal. I stayed there in 2002 and it was $89 a night. Totally worth it.
