NWR vent: annoying 'friends'

I know...we ALL have them.

Two years ago, my 'friend' packed everything up and moved from Boston to San Diego and she loves it there. And, don't get me wrong, I'm happy for her...I'm glad that such a big move was good for her.

BUT...just because she loves San Diego, it doesn't mean everybody loves San Diego and she gets offended and tries to convince you how great San Diego is.

When I jokingly told her that I was just going to have a BBQ on the beach for my reception, she went into this LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG discussion about how I can have a destination wedding in San Diego...the weather's beautiful...the beaches are great...there's so much to do, blah, blah, blah,

Ok...not to offend anybody on this board who may love San Diego or have family living there, but I've been to California, I've been to San Diego. I don't like California. I don't like San Diego. If I'm going to have a destination beach wedding, it's going to be in the Caribbean, NOT San Diego.

I then I had to listen to her go on and on and on about how wonderful San Diego is and the problem with New Yorkers and 'North Easterners' in particular is that we look down on other parts of the country.

Is it just me or did that not make sense?

Maybe she really isn't that happy about being there and she goes on and on to convince herself how 'great' it is.....

We all have those friends that need to be the best and have the best things. Maybe just joke with her and say something like Yeah I got it...you love SD.....maybe she will get the hint....but usually those kinds of people don't get hints like that!

I agree. She probably is trying to convince herself. Or she's just one of those annoying people!

Sounds like she isnt really that happy there...honestly....not to sound mean but thats usually what people do when they over do something they love....

i went to colelge with a girl who was non stop talking about ehr boyfriend, how they were so perfect for eachother...we would go to this bar on thursdays and every week you would hear 'omg were having such an amazing time, were so happy together' and they didnt even talk!!!!!!

Then when they were engaged they moved in with eachother to jersey and all you heard... was how amazing jersey was how great their life is...

last weeki found out they were both cheating on eachother....

gotta love those friends!!!!!!!!! i agree, just brush it off... lol a destination wedding in san diego... yeaaaaa that wouldnt be my top choice either....

i agree!! she is just trying to make you jealous, so maybe youll move there and be miserable with her!!!

The funny thing is as she was going on and on about the beautiful weather in San Diego and if I had the wedding there I wouldn't have to worry about rain, I kept thinking to myself, 'But it was pouring rain during the San Diego Chargers game in San Diego like two weeks ago!'

Thanks for listening! It kept me from saying something nasty to her!
