Just got a call from my aunt (not real aunt - mom's best friend) she apparently planned a surprise 40th anniversary party for my parents - ordered invited and all and is now telling me when it is!!
she did not consult me or my sister and it turns out that i have a wedding that sunday afternoon! its one of my friends from work and she came to my wedding
i am so annoyed that my 'aunt' would do this without consulting the children of the couple whose anniversary it is!!!
am i wrong??
ok vent over - ugh so annoyed!!!!

my aunt said she will call where she ordered the invites from and see if she can change the time of my parent's party but that is so not the point
my sister and i should have been consulted about this maybe WE wanted to do something for them

ugh...nooooo, I do not think you are wrong at all...nice gesture on her part and all, but I think a key part will be missing from your mother's party...her daughter, and I would imagine she would have liked you to be there...she should have gone over details with you...sorry

You are definitely not wrong. She should have seen if you and your sister wanted to do anything and offer to help and she definitely should have checked the date and time with both of you if nothing else.

thanks i really didnt think i was wrong i'm on the phone with my sister now im really annoyed, i have a prior engagment and making the party later (in brooklyn) is not going to work with my sister and her 4, 6 and 5 month old sons
a saturday would def. be better i think i'll have to call her back

She has some nerve. I would call her back and let her know you are grateful that she wants to do this but she really should have contacted both you and your sister to find out what dates would work for everyone.

i called but she must be on the phone because it just rang and rang and no machine then my uncle signed online so i told him that may 31 (their real anniversary) or june 7th would be better - a sat. would be better than a sunday anyway

thanks i told her that she can't assume that people dont have anything to do i told her that not only do i have 3 nephews, but my husband has 7 nieces and nephews and the same way i expect him to come with me to family events, i am expected to go with him and we are not free that day

I would be mad too. It's only right to call very close family especailly the kids of the person to see if they are available and if the day works out for them.

While she is trying to do something nice -- she really needed to consult you and your sister. When my siblings and I threw a party for my parents we consulted with my aunts and uncles to make sure they were available -- its only fair.
