Could you possibly ask them to try and keep it down on the weekends? Maybe if you just talk to them about the issue, they will be understanding. They may not have any clue that they are disturbing you. I am sorry you are going through this, it *****. My upstairs neighbor in my old apartment used to be sooo late really late at night. I think he worked out at like 4AM. I wanted to kill him!!!

They should have rugs.

Have you thought about talking to them in a nice way?

I also live in an appartment and had problems with noise. What I do is I have a fan or airfilter. The white noise blocks everything out for me. I also have used earplugs.

This is mostly at my moms house. I have 2 young niece and nephew. when we are all there for a weekend those little bastages wake up at 7am! I use the air filter and esr plugs and it works like a friggin charm.

unfortunately, if you're living in an illegal apt, theres really nothing that can be said or done... I would suggest using ear plugs for the mornings you would like to sleep in or begin searching for a diff place to live... Do you live with your FH? Does he have his own place you could move into?

Re: NWR- vent sorry

We have the 'how did those elephants get upstairs and why are they running laps???' problem every once in a while in my place, but we just basically deal with it. Fortunately, it doesn't usually wake me up.

The garbage trucks idling outside and the firehouse across the street does that.

Sometimes I'm glad I'm moving to NC and escaping the Brooklyn noise. I know I'll miss it but I think I'll also really appreciate the quiet. At least for a little while.

As far as your situation goes, perhaps just asking nicely so they're at least aware of the problem could help? If nothing, they could try to put socks on their child in the mornings so it's not as loud? I don't know what else the landlord could do. In Manhattan co-op buildings, some have rules about having to have a certain percentage of the floor covered with rugs for this exact reason. It couldn't hurt to ask.

Hope it gets better!

ooooo...I had this in Maine and I worked nights....it was hell!
Buy them some outside toys?
Maybe they can put rubber mats in one room.
To be honest, my neighbors didn't much care...it's hard to keep kids from running around.
