Most behaviorists will say in order to get a proper dominance order, there SHOULD be some fighting. Not so much that they are in danger of severely hurting one another, but enough for one to 'back down' per say.

Another way to introduce cats to a new member of the family is to keep the newest member in a separate room with a closed door for about a week. All the cats will go up to the door on each side and smell each other. Then switch it for a few days (obviously the older members won't tolerate not having free rein as much as the newer one). This way they can get used to the others smell while not being right there in their faces. After that continue as above. Let them together for small intervals and just make sure everything is going well. There will be swatting, growling, etc.... but nothing major most likely.

Thank you! This is exactly what we have been doing. So far so goid. No major fights. Just growling and hissing. Most of the time they leave each other alone. I hope they will become friends.
