FH and I will have a week off together in the summer and I'd like to do something special for a couple of days. Any suggestions?

Re: NWR: Weekend getaways
Im always a big fan of Cape Cod for a short vacay. I love it there, but sometimes its a bit crowded in the summer.

Mohegan Sun! You can gamble, relax, shop. Also Mystic is about 20 min away so you can visit there also or stay in Mystic and visit Mohegan Sun!

What about Newport RI. It is so pretty and a really fun summer place.

Atlantic City!!!
Or you can do something a little more relaxing and go to Montauk for the week....do you want to go somewhere within driving distance?

Totally agree. DH and I were there last weekend and had a blast. There's a good balance of stuff to do - beach, cute little shops and restaurants, touristy stuff like visiting manshions, etc. Love it there and can't wait to go back!
ETA: Love the Cape suggestion too, but traffic can be an absolute NIGHTMARE

I second this idea! DH and I did a mini-HM up in this area last year and loved it! So much to see and do, and the area is beautiful!

florida! you'd probably get a great deal since it's summer. so many people I know are going to south beach this month.
or if you want to stay local. niagara falls seems fun, romantic too. or poconos http://www.caesarspoconoresorts.com/ I think that's the place with the cool looking hot tubs.

What sort of things do you like to do?
FH and I love going to the Fingerlakes (Belhurst Castle) to do wine tours and just relax. There are tons of vineyards and wineries there. I think in the summer you can probably also find some water sports. There's plenty of camping as well.

Re: NWR: Weekend getaways
We've gone to Ocean City Md. about 5 or 6 times in the last 8 years- its the best! The longest we've gone for is a week, and the shortest 3 nights, 4 days. You wanna get a hotel on or really near the boardwalk your first time. It's SO fun and the beach is right there no matter where you are!!
If you're looking for just a weekend get away and don't want to drive 4/12-5 hours, we've also gone to Twin Pine Manor- this gorgeous mansion B&B kind of thing, in the mountains, at the very top of a big hill. The view is incredible, but there's not much to do there but have drinks in your hot tub (a few of the rooms have the hot tub right in the room) and 'sleep' in the most comfy bed EVER! If you like going around to Dutch country, its in/near Lancaster, so the cute towns and shops are all over.

And for ocean city, a good hotel on the beach is Park Place hotel. good luck, have fun!!
